Weird engine noise *video included*

My car has over 100k miles on it, I've maintained it all myself (I've worked in a shop so I think I know what I'm doing)

The front of the engine (timing chain cover area) has this weird constant noise it is constant with rpm, so the higher the rpm the louder the tick. Almost sounds like marbles in the timing chain cover

Please see video attached

Thanks for the help guys

that sounds like your engine values are lose and need tightening up due to high mileage use, these get lose over time due to wear. may also possibly need replacement. A mechanic can easily fix this issue.

^^Are you referring to valve lash? (gap between the valve stem & cams)?

I think that's what mrvool007 is talking about. Isn't the vvel system significantly different than a regular cam and valve setup? I'm beginning to think its a timing chain issue because it's consistent with engine speed and appears to be coming from the front of the engine. I just got back from work I'll check it out in the morning with a stethoscope, I'll also check for deposits on the oil by taking the oil pan off if I can confirm the noise is coming from some where in the timing chain area. Watch this turn into a build thread hahha

Problem solved!!! I took a mechanics stethoscope and pin pointed the noise to the tensioner pulley. I took the serpentine belt off and spun the bearing with my finger and man was it loud. I guess I'll be ordering one in.

Good to know it's this 'simple'. Relatively.

Thanks for sharing with every one and I'm glad to know it was a simple fix and not something more serious.
