Really? 7yr coolant change!

"Blue LLC is designed to have a service life of 7 years/105,000 miles for the factoryfill, and 5 years/75,000 miles for subsequent replacement fills."

Since I usually keep cars for 10+ years, 30k/2yr makes more sense to me. Going to change 100% of the ATF next week also.

Drain and fill every 3-5 years, depending on mileage IMO. I do 5-6K miles a year at best, so probably stick with a 4-5 year schedule.

Why go against what the manual says? The car won't run better or last longer...

They said dexcool good for 100K miles. I don't think so. Additives break down, flush/fill is cheap insurance against such things as water pump failure and build up in the radiator/heater core.

Properly filled radiator can easily go 5 years/75K without changing coolant under normal use with no problems.

Cooling systems are not nearly as delicate as they were years ago.

^^Who said anything about jiffy lube? I do all my own maintenance. The car has yet to set tire into a service shop for any sort of work. Unless there are major issues with the car, the intention is to keep it for a long time. I'll likely do the belt/hoses/tstat at the same time the coolant gets drained/filled.

When was the last time you flushed/bled your brakes?

Manufacturer walks a fine line in recommending service intervals, too short and they cannot advertise low cost of maintenance, too long and they get hit for warranty claims. 105K for coolant and "life time" ATF fluid meets both, but if your going to keep a car as long as I usually do, this is not the type of service you want to do.

I would lean towards what Jsolo said – 5 years max, especially when you are planning on holding onto the car a while. A relatively small investment.

My previous ride was a good weather car, had low miles on the odo, mostly highway driven, and the antifreeze went bad around the four year mark.

The temperature gauge rose a bit when sitting idle in traffic. I threw it in neutral and threw in some RPM’s to help with the circulation.

It started to get worse, and I thought the water pump was crapping out. I took it in for service and the antifreeze was black.
