Help finding the origin of a squeak

For the first time, I’ve been hearing an occasional squeak coming from the outside of my G37C. It’s difficult to tell the origin but it seems to be coming from the rear on either side. I’ve owned my car for about 8 months and today was the first time I had 2 other passengers (~350 lbs additional weight). It started out faint like it was coming from another car beside me then it got louder and more frequent after about 10-15 minutes of driving. It seems to occur when I’m accelerating from a stop or slowly rolling forward (like in a parking lot). It doesn’t happen when I hit bumps. I thought my tires were rubbing since they were touching the felt liner when we were all in the car but I find it hard to believe the rubber and felt would make a brake-like squeak. The tires aren’t close enough to the metal fender to be it. I thought it would go away once everyone else was out of the car but when I drove home alone after work, I heard it a few more times while accelerating from stops and turning (very faint though). I’ve had my current suspension/wheel setup for about 3 weeks now.

H&R Springs
20x8.5; 20x10 Stance Wheels
Hankook V12s; 245/25/20; 275/30/20 (no camber kit)
All other basic bolt on mods (intake, cbe, hfc, etc)

Any idea what/where the squeak is coming from?

Sway bar? I would check the rubber in the mountain brackets. If they don't have grease, could be the culprit. You don't have to hit bumps for them to squeak either.

Easily fixed by just greasing them with some silicon based weather proof grease.

That was my second thought but it never occurred to me to check it since I have OEM sways. I'll buy some grease for it tomorrow and apply it and see if it fixes the problem.

You DONT grease OEM rubber sway bar bushings. They work on friction, whereas the rubber binds against the bar.

Aftermarket urethane need lube.

That's the first i've heard of this. Can anyone else confirm that we're not supposed to apply grease to the OEM bushings?

I guess I assumed you had aftermarket sways. Not saying that oem sways couldn't still be the culprit of the squeak though. I can't remember if my oem sway bushings had grease when I removed them for my hotchkiss sways.

But I thought the grease goes between the bracket and the rubber, NOT the rubber and the sway? At any rate, idk if the oem has grease or not so it doesn't matter.

I don't think it's the sway bars. I'm continuing to hear it only when I start accelerating slowly or maintain a parking lot speed, although it's not a constant squeak. The volume is inconsistent but seems to be the loudest when accelerating from stops. I'm beginning to think it's coming from the rear driver side wheel/suspension. Earlier today while leaving the movie theater parking lot, I had both windows open and my passenger also said it sounded like it was coming from the driver side. It only makes the squeak noise when the wheels are slowly moving so I assume that's where it's coming from. Hard to say but sometimes it sounds like it's coming from underneath the front seats. It drives me nuts when I hear it because I can't find where it's coming from to fix it.

When is the last time you checked your brake pads? There is a little metal tab on them that's used as a wear indicator and when it comes in contact with the rotor, it squeaks.

Also could be a wheel bearing. I had a wheel bearing in my maxima go bad, and it squeaked like you're describing (slow speeds, not consistent) followed by a vibration in the steering wheel at around 55mph that disappeared at 75mph.

Serpentine belt worn?

A squeak could be almost anything bro.

Hope this helps a little

I'm going to look into this. I do have a slight vibration in the steering wheel but never paid it a lot of attention since i'm going to be getting an alignment soon and figured that would cure it. The vibration is non-existent at slower speeds but when i'm cruising on the highway at ~60MPH it's there and gone again at ~70+. Good to know that this is also a common effect of a bad wheel bearing, which i've never had to deal with for any of my previous cars.

There is a DIY on here to replace a wheel bearing somewhere.

Idk how you would find out which side it's on. Maybe drive by someone slow and listen to which side squeaks the loudest? My maxima was under warranty when this happened, so they just figured out which side it is.

If urs is still got warranty, I'd let the dealer figure it out.

GL!

Had a similar "mouse like" chirp/squeak noise that i couldnt pin point for months. Heard it when i was driving slow...same situations you are talking about. I had to do some adjusted to my cat back and was under the car listening for leaks when i heard that damn chirp. Come to find out the exhaust shield between the drive shaft and the exhaust was scraping up against the bigger exhaust piping. Bent it away a little bit....and VOILAA!!...SILENCE Lol

Hey B, any update on this?

Curious if you found out what it was.
