Engine warming up

I have a g37s coupe my brothef a 335i coupe. When we both turn on our cars, my temperature isat normal in less than 3 minutes. Any other car i have driven takes a lot longer. Is there something wrong with my rngine? I dont want to floor it if my engine marks the temp as normal but in reality it may not

Are you just looking at the analog dash gauge? Mine shows "normal" when my oil temp is actually only about 95 degrees, so i don't rely on that. I won't go anywhere near WOT until it is at least 160-180 degrees and that can take 15-20 mins of driving sometimes.

Of course! That's your water/coolant temperature. Your car does not have a oil temp gauge.

What up buddy, long time! Same for you, the analog is your water temp.

Me thinks Direct Inj. motors like the N54 (in the 335i) take longer to warm up. Our EOS (w/ DI 2.0T is the same way.

I would say displacement might have a part in this

I was told it's that piece of insulation glued to your engine hood, so the engine could get to optimal temperature faster even in cold conditions...

Mine rises real quick too. Could be the volume of coolant is small but my hunch is the G37 temp "gauge" is just the inverse of an idiot light in gauge form - after a certain temp above nominal the gauge registers normal.

Maybe someone wants to volunteer hooking up torque and logging engine parameters from a full cold start until it hits operating temp (195*F?).

In the winter, (20-30F), I do get warm temp relatively quickly (5-10 min) of driving.

I'd do it myself, but I don't drive every day.

You're right, the engine warms up to 145-155 degrees within a few mins...
It would take my 370z 2 extra mins to get to that temp

P.S. I use a Scan Gauge to monitor temps

It was designed that way

Our motor is designed to heat up quickly so that it can heat up the catylatic converter and not put out as much polution during warm up. Listen to the sound of the motor when you first start it up. Seems loud for a modern car doesnt it... Its supposed to and nothing is wrong with it.
