Gears Scratch/Grind When Shifting Gears

My '09 G37S manual transmission is scratching/grinding when I shift gears, mainly 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. The car has 31k miles. Its under the Certified Pre Owned warranty which I I'm pretty sure covers the transmission. Will they give me a new transmission just because the gears scratch? How should I approach the service people?

Assuming you got a good firm pedal and clutch is disengaging properly, it sounds like a synco issue. If your warranty covers the trans faults, you should be covered.

At 31K syncro's should not be worn out under normal usage.

Especially 3 different gears!!

I would suspect clutch, or driving experience (lack of).

I agree. Sounds like synchros are bad. Take the car in and let them look at the gearbox before you lose a gear!

Mine did the same thing but just in 3rd and 5th. Replaced transmission under warranty. I guarantee you will end up with a new tranny.

Where you able to resolve this? What did the dealer say?

Lots of reports of 6mt's getting replaced recently. If it's such a robust and bulletproof trans, why such early failures. I can understand replacing a trans at 100K or 150K, but not under 40K.

so difficult -- because all observations are subjective. in all honesty, I had the same concerns about my transmission in going to 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. my dealer took it so seriously that they ended up removing the tranny, opening and examining all the synchros. while I appreciated their "go get it" approach...it turned out that my gearbox was just fine. our boxes are just...rough around the edges.

yea for me it seems the same. 2/3/5 im almost left with shift a bit more firm and not as fast as i would want to engage the gear in. i have taken it to two different dealers, both say that the gears are fine.. so idk what else to belief but just assume they are.

my in law has an 03 g coupe and his shifts much smoother he says (he tested out the gearbox on my car)

but from what i have heard from dealers/people in the forum is that our tranny is just rough..

I see that several G37 owner's have had gear grind. I have noticed it in my '08 going into 5th gear. This only happens when it's cold, after it warms up it's smooth. I have an appointment with Infiniti tomorrow. The service tech said that it's probably the cluitch, but I believe it's the 5th gear syncro. IMO, if it were the clutch, I would have the problem in more than just the one gear and the grind wouldn't go away when it warmed up. Appreciate any feedback.
