I don't think there's a difference in terms of hardware, maybe just the transmission tune?

I've heard its just electronics, but that it hasn't been unlocked yet. Its not line pressure maps. Trying to figure out if an ecm swap is required because the z really does respond much quicker to manual shift commands.

It shifts faster because it has Rev Matching on up shifts. When you hit the paddle the rpm's don't drop as it changes gears. It's like heel toe shifting for upshifts. All in the programming of the TCM or ECU if you ask me.

How can a car rev match on up shifts? If you shift out of 1st at 7k rpm, that's around 40 mph. Going into 2nd at 7k rpm (since as you said, rpm's don't drop) would mean the car would have to jump to 65 mph instantaneously to match the engine speed. If we assume shift time is 0.2 seconds, then we're looking at 6G's worth of acceleration between gear shifts

Yeah, that didn't make sense to me either.

To clarify, I'm talking about how fast the car interprets a manual shift command. The Z does it at least three times earlier, if I were to venture a guess.

No, I'm serious this time, lol. Nissan has a name for the trans program that helps increase up shifts. I think it's called DRM. I will double check.

Okay, I researched the370z.com and found out its called DRM, Downshift Rev Matching, which blips the throttle when downshifting not upshifting, like I thought.

At any rate, the trans in a Z is the same as the trans in the G, it's just programmed differently.

So...., you brought nothing to the table. Good try though.

I'm inclined to wait for the informed opinion of someone who knows the difference between down and up shifts...

Haha, damn, you guys are brutal. And yes, my 370Z performed upshifts just as quickly as a GTR, of course the differences could be in milliseconds. My 370z in manual mode would light up the tires in 2nd gear, and bark the tires going into 3rd gear under full throttle.

Just trying to help the OP see that the G trans has the ability to perform to his needs.
