New GTR Tranny in my G37

Soo...

I want to see how feasible do you think it is to grab a written off GTR double clutch tranny and throw it in to my g37xs coupe.

I really want to have that crazy fast shifting power and a tranny that can hold the extra power in my engine... So is it possible? Well I should ask is it possible to do with minimal changes and cost? That's the real question.

What ya think, has anyone done it.

With minimal changes and cost, no. Can it be done with a lot of custom fabrication? I don't know. Possibly, but it would not be easy. Be the first to make it work.

The only way you can get a GTR tranny for minimal cost is if;

1.Steal a tranny from a GTR.
2. Kidnap a mechanic and make him install the tranny.

To rebuilt a tranny for a GTR some shops charge over $20,000.

Don't think it would be cost effective... Would be more of a headache than it's worth. It's not just the mechanical parts that would need replacing... Electronics as well.

No bueno! Tranny swaps aren't something that's done with "minimal cost" involved.

No plug and play on that one.

Sounds like your going to need to need the Ten Rings to kidnap Tony Stark and have him build it in a cave somewhere in Afghanistan.

Good luck.

i think it would be cheaper and easier to buy a GTR, and replace all the exterior body panels off of a written of G37.

you do understand the mechanic differences between the GTR and G37?

A R35 GTR has the transmission is in the rear of the car, where the G37 has its differential. the transmission then shoots a 2nd drive shaft up to the fron differential to propel the front wheels.

(awd) GTR: engine -> propeller shaft -> transmission -> rear wheels & propeller shaft to front -> front differential -> wheels

(rwd) G37: engine -> transmission -> propeller shaft -> rear differential -> wheels

(awd) G37: engine -> transmission ->transfercase -> rear differential

plus the stock rear subframe wouldnt be able to support the new transmission. you'd need one off a GTR. plus the front sub-frame wont support the GTR differential. plus your transmission mountings would all be custom made. not to **** on your parade, but like i said up top - easier and cheaper to buy a GTR and put on G37 body panels. I DONT EVEN WANNA GET INTO THE ECU/BCM,etc ASPECT OF IT....

I didn't know that and have always wondered about the GTR tranny. So it's really a transaxle instead of a transmission. Similar to what comes in a Porsche and Corvette.

OP, if you want faster shifts and more reliability you should consider modding your current trans. The 370Z shifts as fast as the GTR and has the same trans as the G37. As far as power handling, you can upgrade the stock G trans a to handle al the power your VQ can deliver.

This sums it up - a ton of variables to deal with that would cost A LOT of money.

I really would like my 5AT to shift quicker. I know a grounding kit helps a bit. What exactly is different about a 370Z trans other than tuning?
