Computer updated ?

I have a 08 got it a year ago should I get the new update for the car the dealer wants $120. Is there any performance benefits ? Any info will help thanks .

Computer update? Any more details on which computer? I don't know if they would reflash your ECU with a better one at the dealer...

But if you mean the GPS update, then all the update will get you is new maps which could be nice. If that is the case, the dealer will charge you the $120 to load the new maps on your system, but you still have to buy the actual maps.

Can you buy the maps/nav updates yourself and load them on your own?

As far as the 08-09 models you cannot, which is just wrong. It's so much cheaper getting a new standalone GPS every year than updating our maps, I guess that's the price of having integrated GPS in our cars...

The dealer has the proprietary hardware to upload the maps.

Could you update more than just the gps? Such as the ipod connection so the screen will pick up on the new iphones? Or LED screens like the 2011+

Thanks .... should have clarified better, I was thinking about my 2012 M, not that I need an update soon but just wondering out loud for down the road.

I haven't read anything about ECU updates for our cars from the dealer, unless it's something new...

Let's see if someone chimes in about this.

If you want to change your ECU settings, I don't know if the dealer will do it, as it would probably void your warranty.
