RJM AFP Clutch Pedal System

Just installed my new RJM clutch pedal and I wanted to do a review.

DISCLAIMER: I have no affiliation or connection with the company other than nagging them to to make the product for our G37.

Ever since I found out about this clutch pedal system on the 350z/g35 forum, I got into contact with Ryan at RJM Performance and asked him to make one for us. After 6 months of development, I finally received the prototype for testing. I paid for the pedal, so i dont want anyone thinking that I'm obligated to give a positive review.

So the problem with the stock clutch is the high and narrow engagement point. The high engagement can be alleviated by adjusting the clutch rod, however, the engagement window cannot be changed. This the where the RJM pedal shines. Using an easily accessible turn ****, you can change the pivot point of the pedal. This basically causes the engagement window to increase or decrease.

Installation is fairly straight forward. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking.

After the installation, adjustments to the clutch pedal feel can be adjusted with the turn ****. The best part about this pedal is being able to make adjustments while driving. You can fine tune the pedal feel as youre driving. Once you find the sweet spot, then you can lock down the setting.

Turning to the left raises the pedal and increases the engagement window. It also softens the pedal pressure. Turning to the right lowers the pedal and shortens the engagement window. Using this AFP ****, you can basically change any clutch to soft and smooth cruising mode or stiff and grabby racing mode.

As you can tell from my signature, I have the OS Giken multiplate clutch system. They are notorious for difficult to drive on the street. There is no engagement window, it is either ON or Off. After installing the new pedal, there is a night and day difference. I use to have to start at 1800 rpm from a stop to avoid stalling. Now I can start in first gear with no gas applied. The engagement window is longer and I can modulate the pedal to make every gear shift smooth. The 1st and 2nd gear used to be jerky but is completely smooth now.

I highly recommend this pedal to every 6mt driver. If you have an aftermarket clutch, this is a must. If you have trouble driving with a stock clutch, this will improve your shifts.

A small change had to be made due to a small difference between the 370z and G37 pedals. I think they should be ready in a week or two.

Thank you for the review and pressing for this to get done. I have the Giken twin plate too and can't wait to get this installed. Just ordered one!

Excellent product. I contacted Ryan when I first heard of these and was going to help out with development for the G37 by giving measurements etc., but I dropped the ball and got busy and it went by the wayside. I'm glad you helped out the community by getting it done where I failed. If it makes your OS Giken smooth, it'll be great for everyone - OEM or aftermarket clutch. Thaks for doing the work and writing it up. Awesome, this is my next mod.

Is it possible that before they start shipping that you could actually write up the DIY install instructions? The photos are great, but including the written steps will help people like me. Also how would you rate the install difficulty 1-10? Obviously you are pretty handy with modding, but fir the average modder how difficult would you say it is and how long should it take? Thanks.

Instructions will definitely be available from Ryan. I took a bunch of pictures for him for the installation manual.

I will also add more instructions later, just a little tied up right now.

The installation is pretty straight forward. There are just 2 nuts and 1 bolt holding the clutch pedal in. It took me a little less than an hour for the install. I'd say two hours at most for an average person. The only challenging part is the limited amount of space you have to maneuver.

I would rate it 5 out of 10 for difficulty. 10 being a turbo install. I would consider the clutch spring DIY as a 2. So this is just slightly more difficult than that.

Just installed this and wow what a difference. Better than stock drive ability and clutch pedal feel. I am running the Giken twin plate and can't believe how easy and smooth it is to drive now.

I have installed this a few days ago and i must say... When it comes to drivability, this is by far the best mod for this car that money can buy.

I personally do not know what Nissan / Infiniti was thinking when designing the clutch system but they sure did mess that up and bad. After using RJM pedal all i can say is THIS IS HOW THE CLUTCH SHOULD BE!

There is no boing or bounce back when pressing the clutch in or out, the new pedal is extremely liner and consistent.

Any shudder from stop to 1st while modulating the clutch is gone. Shifts from 1st to 2nd is like butter and could not be made easier. The downshifts are a lot smoother as well and can be done with far less effort and worry of bucking the car to high hell.

Long story short I no longer have to concentrate so much on my shifting that i can finally enjoy the car for everything it has to offer.

You can easily adjust the AFP settings while sitting at a stop light without even moving from your seat. If you don’t like where it’s at, give it a quick turn and then try again, and when your done you can simply lock your settings down.

I ended up running AFP at approximately 60% however i still like my clutch semi grabby, so I am using a tighter setting then the 70% most recommended, and I still might even bring it down to 55% or 50%

If you are still debating on getting this mod and are not completely happy with the way car shifts in any way then get this already and never look back. It will put the biggest smile when you realize exactly what this mod accomplishes

OK here's a question - assuming this kit can make any upgraded/better clutch than stock drive awesomely what is the best clutch to get that's has great grab but doesn't sound like a cement mixer? Is this OS Giken twin-plate I see mentioned in here the best?

My stock clutch and flywheel need to go and this may be the ticket if I can get the "which clutch/flywheel" question answered.
