1st + 2nd gear at low speed you will hear the whine on 6mt. They are noisy.

Stock exhaust is also just really quiet unless you step on it.

So they told me they are replacing the throw out bearing. But I don't think that is the real problem here. I think it will still whine. I'll ask them to drive another 6mt so that I can compare the two. If I don't hear the whine on the other, I think it's perfectly valid to bitch.

the cement mixer sound at idle is normal on these cars. i have a 6mt and have the same issue. also the whine you are hearing is also normal for these transmissions. just one of those ghings you have to get used to.. i bitched so bad about the whine and vibrations they finally replaced my trans and when i got the car back it was slightly better but deff still there.

I do hear that on a cold start I think. Some general kicking for a minute or so. In 60+ degree temp.

But not my issue in op.

Yeah Goonz, thats the clutch chatter. But really wasn't worried about that so much. It's the whine that I care about, and I didn't even bring up the clutch chatter to the tech. I wanted them to focus on the whine.

Can someone confirm that the throw out bearing is not going to fix the whine?

So, they just called me to let me know that replacing the throwout bearing did not fix the problem (surprise) and that they had to order a whole new transmission.

I'm happy that I'm getting a new transmission, but I'm sad that I've already been driving the rental car longer than my real car, and that it's obvsiouly going to be a while till I get my car back

Damn a new tranny and you didn't even have to fight and scream for it? Congrats. These transmissions are noisy though. Mine has a slight wine at 50k miles. I've heard changing the diff fluid helps with this.
