So I just bought the Hypertech ECU tuner, my friend is big on engines and knows a-lot of information. So he will be tuning and installing it for me because he works at a DYNO. Now what exactly will this do for me will this gain horsepower and torque, or will it boost up the horsepower that my mods are sending out?

 

It's not a custom tuner. Plug it in and follow the directions. It flashes the ECU with their parameters. You will definitely notice a difference. More torque/hp, and the removal of the 0-60 throttle restriction.

Since you have a friend with a dyno, do some stock runs, and a few more after you lashed with the HT.

+1. It is actually pretty noticeable as far as the removal of the restriction goes. Should have been this way stock, can actually spin the wheels pretty easily now. Not sure if I notice any power per se, but def feels quicker. Would love to see some dyno numbers, especially with this new intake option. I;m using the takeda option with a R2C.

 

Damn I had no idea we have a 0-60 throttle restriction.

 

0-60 trottle restriction is removed when you reset your ecu or do you have to tune it to remove that restriction??

The "selectable throttle restriction" tunes the engine control systems for better low speed performance without sacrificing driveability, but it does not disable the torque management completely. There are many different torque management systems active at any given time while driving. During our tuning development we altered most of these systems in different combinations to assess the impact on performance, and driveability. We took the best combination of those changes and combined them with further tuning to improve the overall performance and driveability under all driving conditions. The overall affect was so dramatic we felt that all customers would benefit more if the changes were user selectable rather than "forced."
