Need your ears, does this engine sound normal?

Should I be concerned about the noises heard in this video? 2008 G37s 6mt, was cold outside but car had been driven for about 10 min.

G37s under the hood noises

also of note:
  • I need to clean my engine bay, will listen to suggestions on how to do so
  • Radiator hose replacement is ordered, dealer will be replacing under warranty shortly
  • at 1:25 and later, is that oil there leaking or what?

I have 1 month left on warranty to get things fixed, need all the help I can get

Check your oil level. Sounds like your rockers are knocking or about to start knocking.

And I didn't see any oil leaking. How's your gas mileage? Notice any difference in performance?

There's a detail company that sells some wicked engine bay cleaner on here. They did a Porsche engine with it and holy cow did it look awesome. Check out the vendor forums.

If your oil level is good and your mileage and performance hasn't changed, I would certainly take it to the dealer.

To clean your engine bay, spray this on a warm (not hot) engine. Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Wash off with a hose.

83,000 km (51,875 miles) so far.

Fuel consumption hasn't changed absent cause (spikes and increases are explained by small fills, city driving, aggressive driving).

Not using esther oil as dealer does not recommend it for 2008-2010

Oil level should be fine, but I will check when i get to work tomorrow morning and report back.

BB: Our local detailing guy doesn't carry that Can't order off of DI since they do not ship to Canada. I'll search for alternatives.

That does not sound good! And how did ur engine get that dirty? U need to invest in a winter beater. Even though we didn't have a winter this year in toronto its all the salt and dirt gets into ur engine bay. Lol I drive my beater in the summer when it rains.

More then likely needs a valve adjustment only other option would be a spun bearing but wasn't really loud/aggressive enough in my opinion. . . A valve adjustment you can do yourself with a jamnut tool and some feeler gauges, or take to the dealer and it will sound quiet again

Oil level was good, attached is a picture of the colour on cheap paper towel.

Oil type: not esther. Not sure what my local dealer uses.

Would valve adjustment be covered as a warranty service?

I've only had the car since Sept 2011, both I and the previous owner drove it year round as far as I know . The car is fine in winter, I just gotta do a little better job keeping it clean.

Made a trip to the delaer this week for a list of things. When I asked about this, the tech said the noise was normal :O I was both angry and shocked. He then went on to explain how there are tons of electronics; solenoids, coils and switches that can create noise and that I shouldn't be worried as its only audible when the hood is open (that's why all the sound padding is there).

Still in angry at the response I had gotten, I told him I don't believe that, to which he replied, all of their 3.5's and 3.7's do that. So I said, when I get back to the dealer, we can fire up a couple and listen, he said sure. He pauses, then said I could ask them later when I returned to pick up the car as he was dropping me off at their rental car company to get my loaner.

The loaner was a 2012 G37x with 180km on the odometer.... (i.e. 115 miles). I figured I'd pop the hood on this new car and listen. I did this after having it fully warmed up, low and behold it made the same noise(s). At this point I didn't know what to think.

It gets weird here... When I returned to the dealer at the end of the day to pick up my G, the used lot had an 08 Sport coupe, auto, with 80k km on it (mine is an 08 sport coupe, 85k km, manual). I had them turn her on and pop the hood. This car sounded nothing like mine or the rental.
