37hevn: Why so challenging? You're coming off as an expert, but he already declared his rationale earlier, and that's fine. For him.

The G37 platform is one part performance and AT LEAST one part bling (Maybe two thirds? ) The Gallery is filled with beautiful rides which have made their owners happy installing cosmetics and non-essential aftermarket products.

If the customer is happy, that's the end game. And we learn through the process.

I dont mean to sound challenging. I work at a speed shop and we dyno cars all the time and guys come in wanting to see how much they gain if they eliminate back pressure. We tell them they will probably lose power. My boss ends up wagering the idea (free dyno runs before and after if it gains power or they pay for the runs and the time, the pipe is cut before the muffler and some of the time they have longtubes.

2 case in points most recently, 06 gto lost over 30 hp and 07 mustang lost 18.

i dont mean to be an expert and i dont want to tell him what to do but im just trying to provide what i know and see on the dyno so he can have all the info he needs.

btw why does the staff always move my threads?!?! no one will check it where its at and people are interested in this new part that will be available soon. instead you allow threads to stay that are about bumper swaps and headlight stuff. but i digress....

Thanks for the explanation above. This phenomena is something I can relate to. When I first got my camaro, I had a driveline hum at speeds over 60 mph (maybe even 50, but it was barely noticeable). As speeds progressed higher, the hum would increase in amplitude and frequency. It wasn't a constant hum, but cyclic in nature. This effect was quite annoying and scary especially at speeds over 90mph.

Doing some research, the consensus on various camaro boards was that the cause of this was due to an unbalanced steel driveshaft (single piece). On later model cars (mine was a '97 z28), chevy had gone to an aluminum driveshaft to shift this harmonic to a higher frequency. Given the similarities of the drive line, this part would fit the old cars just fine. Most were happy with the results. $150 later, I found the change wasn't as profound as I'd preferred. There was a change in amplitude, and resonance got shifted to about 75-80 mph. Given the local speed limits, that was as much $$ as I was going to put into this issue. I lived with it until I got rid of the car.

I suspect there is some additional drive line loss with a third ujoint, but so long as the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, it makes sense to have it.

I don't know how frequently your threads are moved, but I can shed light on why they are moved. If a thread gets moved it's because it was posted in the wrong place. Often one of the staff will notice this and move it, sometimes we miss some of them. If there's another thread that's in the wrong place and it bothers you, click the "Report Post" button and let us know. Threads aren't allowed to be posted anywhere you please just to get more views. They are to be posted in the appropriate place. My thinking is that a driveshaft discussion thread belongs in the forum about drivetrain stuff. Hence this is where it belongs. If it gets fewer views or replies because most members are more interested in hellaflush fitment of mediocre wheels or putting ricey blue and purple fog lights on their car, then that's just the way it is. There's nothing I can do to make people care about your topic.

FWIW, I care.

Read the OP of the thread Sam posted.

Believe it or not, the reason why those cars lost power is because the extra flow killed velocity at the rpm's those engines are the most efficient. Just read the op.

Sorry Sam.

I did and the way its written is very convincing but rarely like less than 5 percent of the time will eliminating all flow get you more hp. I go what I see on the dyno and it not like it was 5+-hp it was alot. That gto that lost 30+ was putting down 365 before and the mustang before was 350.

So the question is a one piece D-shaft better than the stock S-shaft regarding safety and reliability........And how much would it cost to install something like that?
