turbo question

Does anyone have any turbos that are bigger than 60 mm and acutally have a t4 housing?

for example the gtx3076r's?

if so does it fit or was there any complications to it?

eeh garret came out with new series of turbos that is way better than the turbos that are out in my opinion.

TurboByGarrett.com - Catalog

read about it.

Two of those on our engines would be an overkill though and require a lot of internal work (if not even stroking)

I believe GTM is building a "white dragon" with two GT30's with aims of 1000+hp

Why would it be over kill?

But if GTM makes something aiming over 1000 hp its not over kill?

Anyways school me on this. I would like to read your reasons.

I'll tell you why it'd be an overkill in my opinion

Here's what the compressor map of a GT3076 looks like

Now, the VQ37 Engine Displaces 3.7L of air = 255.78 cubic inch

So assuming a Volumetric Efficiency (VE) of 90% and a redline of 7000rpm, our engines would flow 466.26 ft^3/min as per the flow equation below

To convert volumetric flow to mass flow, multiply by density of air (0.075 lb/ft^3 at 75F and atmospheric pressure from the table here). So the mass flow rate would be 34.96 lbs/min for the entire engine at 7000rpm which translates to 17.48 lbs/min for each cylinder bank. A twin turbo setup would have one turbo per cylinder bank so it's a safe conclusion to say that the turbo will see 17.48 lbs/min at 7000 rpm and 75F and 90% VE.

Now scroll up to the compressor map and, assume a Pressure ratio of 2 (14.7 psi boost pressure) and you will see that your compressor will surge until 6000rpm. Remember, I'm still assuming a generous 90% VE and 75F Intake Air Temps.

Any higher boost pressures and your compressor will enter boost even later. Basically, the turbo's are too big for our engines.

There's also one additional problem.. traction. You better be rocking a bulletproof transmission, drag radials and a re-inforced chassis to even come close to utilizing 100% of the power generated. Of course, if you're building a dyno queen that's a different story.

What GTM did was stroke their white dragon to 4.5L if I recall correctly and they probably pushed redline further up to widen the power band.

alright so heres another question. has anyone, i mean anyone, in the world ever do a top mount turbo install, instead of being on the sides of the engine. the only place i've ever seen or heard of a turbo going in our vq engines is the side. just like how gtm does it.

with this also being said, i know there are hard core iron cast fans, which i am too, and there are tubular manifold fans. if a top mount turbo could be mounted, would you know anyone who makes or has done a turbo custom manifold?

im very curious. cuz i noticed on gtms stage 6 turbo, its a t3 housing. correct me if im wrong, but they upgraded the fans in there for a quicker response. again correct me if im not.
so again with the gtx3076r's wouldnt it be possible to slap on a t3 housing?

again more insight is always welcome.

im just a regular guy learning as im going. im modifiying the hell out of this car, and throwing on a haltec p1000 engine managment on it. i dont like uprev. but opinions are always welcome.

What exactly are your goals in terms of power?
