Aftermarket alternator pulley?

Unorthodox Racing G35 / G37 Accessory Pulley - Alternator VQ35HR / VQ37VHR - performance parts

What is the purpose of these? i mean is there a reason to have a lightweight alternator pulley?

its suppose to give you more power by replacing the heavier stock pulley

i think you might get a better result from the crank pulley

What a waste of money! That pulley is so small to begin with that the power difference is takes to spin the stock piece over this one are negligable. If you want to gain real hp by reducing rotational wieght change out your flywheel to alloy. All these alloy accessory drive pulleys are just bling.

Steveo, The point of the pulleys are to free up some power that the engine makes and send it to the wheels instead of using it to turn the heavier crank pulley and the accessories driven off of it. Reduction of parasitic loss.

I have a set (NST not UR) that I recently won as a door prize at a local meet. I haven't installed them yet. The crank pulley is 16 oz as opposed to the 75 oz of rotational mass directly on the crank shaft. The crank pulley is 59 oz lighter in weight and also underdriven 10%. The alternator pulley is 5 oz lighter and overdriven 10% to keep it turning at the same RPM as normal. If they will make a lightweight/overdriven water pump, idler, and power steering pulley I'd consider getting them to install them all. Otherwise I may not bother.
