i rarely use it. I came from driving a 6sp manual right before this car, the paddle shifters can be somewhat fun i guess but it's no where even close to being as fun as a true manual transmission, so to me clicking on the paddles is nearly pointless
The paddles is more for "racing" than for fun. With the paddles you're forced to have both hands on the steering wheel at all times. It comes very handy when you're braking hard into a corner and have to downshift at the same time. Or when you run out of rpm's through a corner and have to upshift. Both hands on the steering wheel= more control. Can't wait to try this car with the paddle shifters at autox.
Is it bad when your on like 3rd gear and theres a red light that you dont down shift and just stop? Or is it necessary to downshift all the way to one and then stop? I drive a 2008 5AT

nope not bad at all, doesn't hurt the car or anything.
I usually have it in D when I'm driving to and from work, just being lazy. But if I'm driving around for fun or on the weekends I use M, downshifting and messing around. Not a big fan of DS, it tends to hold high revs for longer than I'd like after I back off the gas. I understand why it does that, but just more proof I don't need to use DS.
i used to use it all the time.. till i saw what it did to my avg mpg.. (i drove it aggressively) then i realized how lethargic i felt driving in D so i went back into manual mode. its always a cycle, depending on how much money i want to spend of gas per week lol
I tend to use D, just for the MPG. I have been considering going M though for more fun. That is one of the benefits of the car. The ability to have real fun.
I test drove a 2011 7AT a few weeks back and found the shift lag with the paddles to really ruin the fun. Looks like I'll being going with a 6MT, or could wait 2 more years (assuming new model for 2013) in hopes of a DCT trickle down from the GTR to the next G coupe
