G37 7speed transmission reprogram
Sorry guys forgot to post. I had the update last week to my 2011 g37. It was quick. Only took an around an hour. Anyway I haven't driven it much as I have been driving my beater, but initial impressions is that it is better. I cannot say that problem is gone though. I took it through this area in a neighborhood with lots of stop signs so slow down and accelerate which always screw with my transmission. It didn't pass 100%, I would say 85%
Just came back from Infiniti. The TSB has been updated accordingly to the service technician, however, they didn't put anything on the paperwork as far as what version did they performed the update. I re-assured by calling the service got reply as "we connected your vehicle to the computer and it updated itself to the most current version".. is this legit? While driving, I honestly really didn't notice much difference at all when accelerating, at least, not that dramatically improvement like many other mentioned. The lag issue has been fixed, and there isn't any lag while cruising around 40-50MPH, ..
I was wondering if this is normal and this is the MOST UPDATED one I received?

John, the lag is the thing the TSB really addressed. When you step on the gas prior to the update, the tranny didn't react for a couple of seconds. With the TSB in place, the tranny should downshift almost immediately. You got the latest TSB, relax and enjoy your ride.

Skip it, I wouldn't bother getting the ITB10-75a update. Pre ITB10-75a there is definitely more harsh downshifting when coming to a stop, but I would take that anyday over the 1-2 sec delay lag. Also pre ITB10-75a the DS mode is nice and sporty, downshifts aggressively keeping the car in the powerband, post ITB10-75a it's very dumbed down.
Definitely agreed. I posted this a few pages ago, but I recently had my 30K service on my used '09 and my transmission was reprogrammed by the car shop I took it to, which after a poster mentioned it to me, made sense. It's gotten so bad I'm going to ask them to re-program it to the old one. It's to the point where I don't feel safe driving it anymore.
I have a 2011 sedan and my mpg only reads 0-30. If I got the new update, will the mpg change to 0-60?
Nevermind. Mine does read 0-60 mpg. I was thinking the information screen where it shows fuel eco and history. I always drive with the temp showing anyways.

Hey guys -
(This is my first post here...definitely won't be my last)
I just purchased a 2010 G37x, non-nav, non-premium pkg, but with bluetooth phone. It had 24,500 miles on it and I got a sweet, sweet deal (based on everything I've read/seen). I noticed the transmission was shifting oddly, and since I've never owned an Infiniti before, I wasn't sure if it was normal or not. A little googling led me here and to this thread. I was having similar issues...lag from a coast, hard/jerky downshifting, etc.
I took the car to my local Infiniti dealer yesterday (I didn't purchase it from them) and asked them about the shifting issues and the latest TSB. First, they wanted to make sure I understood that a TSB was merely a suggestion and not mandatory service item like a recall. They told me before they reprogrammed anything, they would inspect it and rule out other problems first. Second, regardless of what they did/found, everything would be covered under warranty.
After inspecting and driving it, they decided that it did in fact need the latest software update. They reprogrammed it and I picked it up yesterday afternoon. I have no idea which TSB they updated it with (I'm assuming the one that came out last month, which is the one I mentioned to them when I called them), but it's night and day in the way it shifts now.
If I had to compare it to something, imagine you just got yourself a brand new grown pit bull dog. Whenever you walked that dog, he led you all over the neighborhood, jerking and dragging you everywhere. You took him to obedience school (had him reprogrammed!), and now he sits when you want him to, walks when you want him to, and runs like a demon when you want him to. After driving my G for 24 hrs after the update, that's the way I feel now.
My tech told me to drive it for about a week and let the car get adjusted to my driving habits (they're cognitive now???). He said if the software update didn't fix the issues, the next thing they would look at is replacement of the torque converter, which would be covered under warranty. So far, however, things seem great. It drives and shifts much more smoothly.

Wow...finally some progress. I haven't posted in this thread for a long while, but am interested in some more detailed feedback on the latest update (while I await it becoming available for '09s).
Brief history:
I have an '09 with original programming (no updates) that works well. In part, it's because I rarely have to drive in heavy traffic. Experienced the dreaded lag only once in the entire time I have had the car. Rough downshifts...very rarely, but I do understand the concern.
Things that I impressed me about the tranny and programming (comparing to dozens of cars I have owned and/or driven extensively):
People didn't and don't like the aggressive downshifting that mimics a manual tranny, so Infiniti got rid of it. Meanwhile, it's a non-issue if you just drive like you would a manual (or hybrid) and maintain a slight amount of throttle instead of treating the throttle like an on off switch. We're all familiar with the jerky result of throttle stabbing on and off in a manual transmission car, right? As a result of liking this feature, I refused to get the prior two updates. Since I am in the minority, I would have no problem if this behaviour was retained in DS, which I would then have to get used to using instead of D. I have no indication that this is the case--can someone confirm that we have lost the old sporty aggressive downshifting completely?
Rev-matching and downshifting when heavier braking applied in D...reference is made that this is removed in the latest update. That is just ridiculous in my opinion because it works brilliantly, but please confirm it is also gone in both D and DS. Again, if you are a jerky driver and don't anticipate traffic properly and are therefore stabbing the brakes a lot, it might become annoying. It has activated about 4 times in total in the entire time I have owned the car--and each time I would have wanted to downshift myself if I were driving a manual. Given the panic situation, I doubt I would have had the wherewithal to react fast enough.
DS Mode...no one is talking about how it performs. Can someone please elaborate on the characteristics and compare to the new D mode.
The perfect update for me would be very simple:
Who can tell us how much of this has been accomplished with the latest update?
After driving a '12, I am convinced that the overall changes are positive. The docile driving is much improved. It is responsive to aggressive throttle even in D. However, I didn't have time to test whether the aggressive downshifting still occurred in DS mode. I wasn't trying to replicate the rev-matching downshift on heavy braking, but am alarmed that it may be removed.
Please help! Until I get this extra info, I would still likely keep what I have because on balance it is more appealing to me.
P.S., could somone with some mechanical engineering expertise help us to understand how the exhaust note could be altered by this programming change? I think it is a bit of a stretch, but would love to be proven wrong if the new version is simultaneously "quieter" under normal conditions and "more snarly" when pushed.

Things that I impressed me about the tranny and programming (comparing to dozens of cars I have owned and/or driven extensively):
- Aggressive downshifting in D. Minimizes use of the brake pedal. Mimics a manual transmission (great because I don't have to waste energy with a clutch pedal or use one in annoying traffic and everyday use situations that I am stuck with--it's not a weekend fun sports car, unfortunately).
- Rev-matching and downshifting when heavier braking applied in D. Brilliant from my perspective--performs faster than I could do it myself with a manual.
- Reasonably docile when poking along in D (especially with Snow mode on).
- DS mode so exagerrated that it is useful for track, not aggressive road use and certainly redundant for everyday driving (D adapts to aggressive throttle quite well). But why would anyone try to use automatic in the first place for track or other aggressive use?--that's what the paddles and M are for, so DS is effectively useless. Use it almost never.

The perfect update for me would be very simple:
- Transfer the original D programming (on my car) to DS.
- Fix the slightly rough shifting probelms in both D and DS.
- Apply the latest updates to D, since there is overwhelming agreement that they are positive.

Can't praise them enough. It's the first time I've ever been to their dealership and they treated me like I was a long time customer. They gave me a loaner to drive while they worked on my car for the day and had my car spotless inside and out when I picked it up.
The only down side to their dealership is that they are part of a group of auto dealers located in an area they call the "auto mall" and you have to drive by the Bentleys, Maseratis, and Ferraris to get to the Infinitis.
