ANMVQ: Betchya it's in 6th or 7th gear at 35mph. That's the problem with this tranny. Somehere in this thread a member explained that even at a slower speed than 35 mph, the tranny was in a top gear. on local road, D Mode, at 30 or so, I see the RPMs at 1500 and I feel that "torque Converter" feeling, if you know what I mean..... if I flick it into DS mode, and upshift it will be in 5th gear {that's the only way you know what gear you are in while in DS mode} and either Beeps me that the speed is too slow for the upshift [which makes sense at that speed] and doesn't do it or with a little gas, it will upshift to 6th. It's at those speeds and revs that the hesitation is experienced - too much loickup of the torque converter for higher gears and better mileage !!

Fish: If I recall, you were very haqppy with the Reflash and the results. Your comments seem to indicate otherwise. Mine is erratic. Today with a cold morning I pushed it, operation was while cold was not too good. But i know that the TCM it is engineered to perform better as it warms. There are measures in the programing to account for that. Other cars - we now own a 2010 Subbie Legacy 2.5i, the manual says that the CVT tranny will perform in a certain manner until it reaches real nromal operating temps.

From: Framingham Ma,
I beat it is also, ,Down shifted last night it went into 5th, ,UG 6th gear at 30 MHP is rediculous.. Still with the pedal reset all is good other than that..

I heard Acura has just added the 6th gear to their TL, so I'll probably test drive the refreshed TL which by the way looks tons better than before but still not good enough. So I'll wait for the next gen TL

To be honest, I am starting to get tired of my G after 2 years with all the road noise, soft paint. The transmission is not a big deal to me because I do mostly highway driving and am willing to use those paddle shifters if I need it to downshift quickly.
FWIW, Acura uses the opposite approach to gearing as the Infiniti--with a VERY tall top gear.

To me, thats a software issue........even if there is a lack of low end torque, there should be a way to program around it.

The shifting should be based at least somewhat on load and accelerator position, so when the car is under load at that RPM and the gas pedal is pressed a certain amount, it should downshift........shouldnt make any difference the amount of torque the engine is putting out.
You obviously didn't read my long earlier post. The lag IS due to "confusion" as to whether to drop one, two or even three gears. But the unusual gearing and the lack of low-end torque conspires to make this a bigger problem than it might otherwise be (in my last long message I said see FX50 for an example). Add-in a hyper-sensitive throttle mapping and we get what we get. The new mapping will ease the problem, not cure it because it is only addressing a symptom. The cure is impossible without an engine transplant and redesign of the gear ratios.

Clue for treating your car nicely: don't push the car when it is still in "cold start" mode. Wait until normal operating temps have been achieved before driving aggressively. The cold start mode is indicated by a faster idle speed and delayed upshifts. For example, the car won't even shift into 7th gear in cold mode (I haven't tested this by driving at extreme speeds, but even at 70 mph it remains in 6th and will stay in 5th at lower speeds). It maintains higher than normal rpms to speed the warm-up of the engine because it reduces overall emissions.

Not exactly happy nor unhappy. I was very happy last time I reset the ECU. However, as I get stuck more in traffic the car sometimes lag a little when the traffic condition change. On the other hand, for the same traffic pattern, the car seem to be able to read my mind. I'm sure if I reset the ECU again, I'll be happy for a while. I'll keep driving the car and will post my experience.

Does the g25 powerband have that much more low end torque? There have been at least a few owners that said they have no issues like this with the g25

It obviously has less torque in an absolute sense. The question is torque relative to maximum torque at various rpms and throttle mapping. I will bet it uses the "new" throttle mapping available in the reflash. It may also have a more fuel economy-oriented programming (it better, because if the mileage is roughly the same as the 3.7, what would be the point and if all else was equal, there wouldn't be much difference).

Marc, the last two sentences of your comments is almost precisely what it says in the Subbie information.... Good point. Similar to Fish's comments later, today my car drove differently, more responsive than the other day. This is weird. Never had cars that have had "minds of their own"...Today, it drove like I expected this car to drive. Virtually, no lagging, more instant response from the throttle.

Not that I don't believe you, but you look up G37's dyno chart online, the torque curve is quite flat from pretty much from 2500 rpm all the way to 7000 rpm.

*** 2ND Update: So I picked up my car Monday and had a chance to drive it 2 days since and it is absolutely more responsive after the reflash! I would say it is more responsive and drivable now in "D" than it was before the reflash in "DS" mode or with the Hypertech tune. Right from a standstill the acceleration and throttle response is smoother and this continues through the trouble areas of 30-50 MPH which is a huge improvement for local drivers. I have not driven the car on the highway yet since the reflash so I will update once again when I do, but for the next month or so I'm gunna drive it as is before trying the new Hypertech Tune.

5th at 35 MPH in itself isn't bad - it saves gas. It's coming out of 5th to 3rd on a sudden acceleration that's the problem!

5th gear @ 35mph? That is very good, my shift to 7th at 20mph, 1000rpm.

Actually, I would like to know what you mean? Is it like when you hit the gas a bit on that speed the revs go up but the car doesnt move and then to tranny hooks up and then it starts accelerating? That's what I get at those speeds and I'm wondering if this is part of the problem you guys are describing and if it would be fixed with update...
