realized this about a week ago. i think its pretty recent since ive never caught it before. i was driving home from school and i accelerated moderately from a red light. as i went from 0-35~ mph every few seconds id hear a pinging sound. sometimes it was before my 7AT shifted itself or sometimes it was just while in a gear. let it go and didnt make much of it. happened again today. i only can hear it if i turn my car audio off and listen closely. road noise muffles it out a lot so its something i try to hear for. i cant hear it when above ~35mph; idk if its because its not happening or if the road noise gets too loud to the point where i cant hear it.
anyone can chime in as to what might be going on?

 

VVEL ticking. are you using Ester oil?

 

I just had my motor replaced because of this issue. It went away first after Ester oil but came back almost a year later after they redid the fuel rack on my car for another issue. Tech couldn't find out where the ticking was coming from and then I received a new motor.

Not saying this may be the case for you as most have seen the issue go away with the Ester Oil but don't rule it out. The ticket noise has been addressed in a TSB by Infiniti and the dealer will give you an Ester Oil change + ECU Reprogram for free. Bring it in.
