Hate to bump an old thread but three's no need in a new thread either.
I replaced the Y-pipe with a Tanabe and the exhaust leak that I thought was coming from the old flex piece is actually still there. It's still the same note and tone but is only VERY obvious when its cold. Once its warmed up its totally gone until higher revs. I think I have it narrowed down to either the manifold gasket or the gasket between the header and cat. Is this a common problem or am I crazy and just hearing the cold start sound??

Like others, I was concerned with the lumpy idle, but 2 things put me at ease: 1) the sound always smooths out at exactly the same time, and 2) if you put the car in gear right away, the noise immediately disappears and the car sounds normal. Whatever it is, the computer is controlling it. If it was an oil related issue, I would think the noise would increase when put in D or R.

Don't know about the Q cars, at some point they do have different engines. The cold start noise must be related to emissions programming from a dead cold start. I just start up and select reverse to back out and as soon as i move it into reverse the noise stops.
