i've heard that you're supposed to change the oil after the first 1000 miles. something about junk from new engine parts getting into the oil.

anybody ever hear anything like this?

Definitely a good idea - as the parts wear agains each other, metal shaving or particles result - imagine putting sand in the crank case! Good idea for tranny and differential too. Important if you want your car to hold up for longer mileage - not as important if you trade every 3 years or less. There is an old book called "Drive it Forever written by an automotive engineer that emphasizes the importance of early care for long drive train life. Interesting read. No, I do not have any vested benefit in recommending oil changes.

That is what an oil filter is for. It filters out those particles.

Shavings are a sign of an engine that is going to go.

Early oil changes are not required. Some people still do it for peace of mind, but there's no real benefit considering current manufacturing processes. The owner's manual is the best place for any recommended maintenance.

Thats what was recommended back in the day for new cars, not necessary in newer cars but it wont hurt. Oil filters have come a long way in catching smaller microns (except FRAM).

Just change it at 3750 and you'll be fine.
