Help Chattering/Rattling Noise sitting in Neutral
Chattering/Rattling Noise sitting in Neutral
I've got a slight issue that may or may not be something that's just characteristic of the engine/transmission or something that I may just need to bring to the attention of the dealership to have rectified.
I have a 2010 G37S Sedan 6-speed manual.
I've had manuals all my life and this is the first one that makes this chattering noise while sitting at an idle. I notice the noise most prominently when sitting in my garage after starting the engine or pulling in about to turn it off when the car is in neutral w/ no clutch application.
It sounds like the clutch itself is not fully disengaged or something is going on w/ the pressure plate/flywheel contact. As soon as I step on the clutch all the way the noise is gone. As soon as I let go of the clutch it comes back. It has been doing this since 22miles on the car when I purchased it. THe car now has approximately 1300 miles and it is doing it still, even worse than before I might add.
Any take on this issue ladies n gents? I know there aren't too many 6-speed manual guys out there but hopefully SOMEone has seen this issue.

Unfortunately it is not considered and "issue" as its common with the G35 and G37 manual transmissions. Although some people were much worse than others and did have some actual problems with the transmission and were able to have it fixed or replaced. Do so searching, there are several threads.
The "cement mixer" sound you are talking about is unfortunately considered normal on our cars. It's a throwout bearing issue. I believe that one or 2 people have had it eliminated by replacing the throwout bearing. I don't think this was covered under warranty but I'm not sure.
