Adding paddle shifters to g37x coupe?

I was told that there was no real way to know if my car was wired for paddle shifters or not (i suppose its random?...). They said the only way to check was to dismantle aaround the plugs.
Does anyone know for sure if it is random or on every vehicle? Does it change model to model? Can anyone confirm this?

I had an early build 2009 X coupe and it had the harness taped to the sterring wheel. It took me about an hour to do everything and I removed the sterring wheel to make it easier. I am 99% sure all X coupes from 2009 have the harness. I have yet to see one person who tried it and did not.
