I simply don't have time to do things like change my own oil. So, can anyone report on what their average oil change costs using the Nissan Ester oil?

Wynand, Here's what it costs in my area....Nissan dealer will do my changes with
Nissan Ester for $90. Infiniti dealer charges $120 for same service. Checked
internet yesterday...can now get Nissan Ester delivered to the house for $12/quart
by the case and Redline for less than $9/quart deliverved by the case. Either dealer
will let me bring my own oil. Shop around. Good luck.

And the G uses 5 quarts? so thats either $60 or $45 depending on the oil you choose, and how much is labor?

Those prices include labor here in Omaha. I've heard some California
dealers in particular were charging much more. Is that true?

I bought my G37 this October. My dealer recently called me to come in for an oil change in Jan (they want to change oil every 3 months). $90 for change using dino oil. 4th oil change is free. So basically 4 oil changes for $270. Should I stick to dino oil or go synthetic? My Nissan dealer for my Maxima does dino oil change for $30 bucks...

I'd change it myself w/ Mobil1 for 30 bucks, or at least go the Nissan route w/ $30 dino, $90 dino change is a major ripoff~Shame on that dealer

Well, Here's the dilemma. I do not claim to be knowledgeable about cars - not yet. Simply because I have not paid much attention to it so far. My Max is '98 GLE. My modus operandi for the last 1 year has been to take it to the dealer for oil change, and dutifully listen to their complaints about all the things that is wrong with the car. Then come home, research the FSM, buy parts from Pepboys / autozone et. al., and do the repairs myself. Actually I have been saving so much (considering a 11 year old Max), that wifey had no problems when I went slightly crazy in Sears this thanksgiving buying tools all in the name of car repairs . Recent achievements include spark plug change, oil pressure switch, PCV valve etc. etc. So oil change should be piece of cake.

I feel that I would miss out on the "free diagnostics" if I do not go into the dealerships once in a while with the G37... what to do?

If you can work on your 4th generation Maxima (I have a '96 still on the road), you can work on this car too if it becomes necessary. Download the FSM. Take it to the dealership if it's something under warranty that they must fix for free. If you ever get a CEL and it's somehow not a warranty item, take it to Autozone (if you don't own a OBD diagnostic tool) and have them read the codes. Then consult the FSM and get to work. It's fun and you learn a lot by doing it yourself.

And yes, $90 dino oil changes on this car is rape. You should be getting magical Nissan Ester oil for that price. Buy synthetic for $30, a filter for $6 and change it yourself in 30 minutes if you're a novice.

Black Betty, Yes, I think that's what I will do. I do have a OBD tool that works on the Max. Never tried it on the G37, but it should work. Thanks!

You're all set man. You have the tools, you can read the codes, you can do your own work for a lot of stuff. But if your car is like the majority ofours (with a few lemons that are the exception), you'll be pretty problem free. Most of the things you may have problems with are warranty items.

I can do 7 oil changes for $270 using premium synthetic oil, 13 with conventional oil. Never get another dealership oil change in your life unless it's free!

Had my local Nissan dealer do the full 7500 mile service yesterday. Did the oil change using Nissan Ester oil, plus rotate the tires, plus top the fluids and all the standard inspections. Total cost was $103 including tax and disposal fees. The oil change itself cost $74 which is only $45 more than using dino and the same as they charge for Mobil 1.
