No they don't, but in Maryland on newer cars all they do is check for codes and check engine lights, they won't smog test.

I figured this much, but only one way to find out. My emissions is going to be in May. If I fail, there's no problem with me putting the stock cats back on for a few days.

Just don't leave your car on inside the garage lol.
Otherwise, the smell is very faint.

what? black smoke is a sign of running rich or other possible problem.
you are not supposed to have that black smoke.

2 things. 1 when they do emissions don't they put something in exhaust pipe for co2.and 2nd is the test pipes do give off an heavy odor of gasoline.
