VQ motor is breaking in nicely... 3500 miles

happy to report that 3500 miles into it, the VQ is really just snapping to life everytime I hit the gas.

I felt, like many did, that this car was kind of a dog low-end... but really picked up speed quickly after the first 1/2 second -- that's gone away and now I have a very nice, brisk launch with 1/2 throttle --> full throttle from a stop.

Also acceleration is noticeabley quicker since days 1 through 30. The engine really breaks in nicely and this car is a continued joy to drive. Highway passing has also improved a bit as well.

Cheers

I doubt it's the break in. It's most likely the adaptation values inside the PCM are set to your driving style now! Glad you love it though!

You know, I noticed the same things in the first month of ownership, and that it seemed like the throttle response was beginning to get better from dead stops, etc. I took some good Dynolicious data at the beginning of ownership that showed dog-like accelration - 5.8 to 5.9 0-60's and embarrassingly slow 1/8 miles, etc., when I should have had 3 to 5 tenths knocked off that time. That car, after about 2000 miles, seems more responsive, so I am going to gather some more data (same time, same place, similar atmospheric conditions) to see if the data agrees with my butt-dyno.

BTW, when doing speed runs, I get better times out of D than DS, consistently. DS seems to hold gears too long, and shift in the wrong places in the powerband for optimal use of torque - anybody else think that?

Uh, no! That's not break in. The adaptation values change depending on how you drive. When the ecu gets resest, so do the values. Can be 1000 miles or 100,000 miles. With that being said, if you would have babies the car since you got her, it would still feel like a "dog". But the car is getting accustomed to being whooped like a $2 hoe!

Start driving it like an animal and the PCM will adapt!
