Not to bump and "older" thread, but this just started happening to me about 2 weeks ago. I can replicate the problem is about 30 seconds of driving. I'm about to go to the dealership in 30 minutes to get it checked out. I'll reply in this thread stating exactly what the dealership said and how they (hopefully) fixed it.

But yeah, just to echo what others have been saying, it's quite off-putting going from manual to D. You just end up sitting in 6th gear waiting for a downshift that takes FOREVER when you're trying to make a lane change. UGH.

Alright, so I got back from the dealer earlier today, and once again, to echo what everyone was saying, they just replaced my shifter unit as well. Here's the actual part number listed on my receipt:

DEVICE ASSY-TRANSMIS-34901-JK60C

After about 40 miles of driving, everything feels better than it was before. Shifts aren't smoother persay, but I think they're more crisp (slight faster perhaps). Even better was the fact that the shifter feels SILKY smooth moving from P to D. Not nearly as "notchy" as it was when I initially got the car.

As a quick comparison, they also gave me a loaner car for the day (2010 G). To be honest, I'm glad I got a 2009. I didn't like the all white gauges, nor did I like the center console change. What I did like was the fact that the cig lighter/ash tray area didn't have an ash tray and the "cubby hole" could actually fit credit cards. I HATE how the 2009 ash tray is completely useless because it's too small.

I started having this problem yesterday night. For anyone that has experienced this problem, did it ever go away magically or has everyone that has experienced this problem had to get their shifter replaced?

As I mentioned, I had to get my shifter replaced. I hoped it would go away after a while, and I waiting about 2 weeks. But in the end, it would always come back.

My experience with the issue:
https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-cou...mode-help.html

It was in the middle console, dealer replaced under warranty.
