Why the hate for Stillen Exhaust?
Stillen's intakes are the biggest example of the poor R&D (hence the 3 generations), mind you I have the 3rd Generation and love it. Their view is to jump in and be the first to release parts, they'll automatically be the best in their class because simply there is no one else in that class.
Go to the370Z and have a look at what they're doing there. People are swearing by their products

had the stillen exhaust on my 350Z...i loved it. loved the sound, the simple look (not a fan of the separated muffler look), and the build. was it worth msrp?..nope. thank god i got it used for $600....lol.
one little complaint was the drone...but my tires were noisy as hell anyway...lol.

Sounds perfect to me. I was hoping to go with that same car until I found out there's no graphite leather for it. I figure the slate blue will do fine though. Definitely the exhaust I'll be putting on though.
I had to relate this story from the shop that I am taking my G to. Static-X motorsports. Another guy with a 08 G37S 6MT brought his car in, had it dyno'ed in stock condition, then went off and got about $5K in Stillen bolt-ons, intake, HFCs, headers, exhaust, who knows all what, and then also got Cobb AP for an appropriate ECU map. Came back, lost 1 HP on the dyno. I'm just relating the story, but this is from the shop owner and he seems like a straight up guy. Then they had several back and forths with Stillen on how this could be, specifics of the dyno, etc. The shop's position is that the car is engineered to essentially peak performance in stock configuration and the only assured way to increase HP is via forced induction. Bolt ons are more for show than anything else.

I love the Stillen exhaust on my coupe and it dynoed higher for me than stock and was my only mod at the time. I started out with Magnaflow which was too loud and a steady, low drone on the highway. Tried my friends Borla next, even louder with a distinct drone as well. Then I bought the Stillen and it had a slightly louder, stock style sound with no drone and excellent fit and finish. Since I chose the slash tips instead of the double wall, I had no issue with it sticking out past the bumper. The only thing I noted as a negative for me was that the Stillen was about the same weight as the stocker when the Borla and Magnaflow were quite a bit lighter.
IMO, Stillen got a bad rep for their intakes. They seem to rush them to market. Some lost power and when they first had the plastic airboxes they were prone to cracking apart into pieces. (I had one on my G35, not good) But apparently their Gen 3 intake has many people singing their praises.
I think like most aftermarket vendors, Stillen has some good things and some not so good. It's all a matter of preference. My advice to anyone shopping in the aftermarket is that you should do your own research, form your own opinion, and try to find someone that already has the mod in question so you can see it firsthand.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel??
Thanks for your input. Very well put and makes great sense. I'm glad you like your Stillen Exhaust, I love mine as well for the qualities that you noted.
