DS/MM Disabled

This has happend to me 3 days in a row now, every time I drive, MM/DS do not function, the only thing I seem to be able to do is use my paddle shifters but it will switch back to D after a few seconds. Only a few times throughout 3 years did this happen in my G35 and would immediately work after a restart but now it is 99% of the time disabled. I did notice today once that the NO KEY light flashed just before but the key is in the same place it always is. I tried driving with the spare key, same problem..

I always drive in MM and an ECU reset solved nothing, I did clean my car the other day with some whipes but I've done this 100% of the time and never experienced this before. Anyone else?

wow, that's pretty odd, man.

I'd say you've earned a trip to the service department.

sounds like the sensor is not picking up that you slapped the stick over in DS and it is behaving like it is still in drive and you use the paddle shifters.

Just ran some errands 4/5 times I got in my car it didn't work and on the way home it finally did. I also noticed that when in D mode nothing lights up, guess something came lose down there.

Hmm.. time to bump an old thread. Anyways, I've been experiencing this too for the past couple months while away at school. I can get it into MM no problem, but the computer will stick it back in D without touching anything. ECU resets do nothing and a lot of the times, it'll switch back to D on the display a few seconds after being in MM and will just stay there, even when moving the shifter from D to DS and then on MM + or - until I turn off the car and then it'll work again in MM for another 5 seconds and do the same thing after restarting. Any ideas on how to fix this before taking it to the dealer when I go home for summer break?

I doubt any mods are causing this because everything has been on the car since last June and running fine when the problem just started happening in late January/early February.

mine did this yesterday!! i've even been able to hold the gearshifter up in the "upshift" position and have it lock into Drive. have to turn the car off then back on. I've got an open ticket with the dealership to see if they can find out what's wrong.

I still haven't taken my car in to get this fixed. When I first start the car DS will work just fine until I put the shifter in D or N, then the Key light will flash on the display and I can only use the paddles until I restart my car. Good to know other people had this problem, I made an appointment for next Wednesday so I hope they can get this fixed.

I just had my car serviced, they replaced the shifter, problem solved. Also had the full exhaust replaced because of an emissions sensor malfunction.

^Thats good info. My car will now not stay in DS/MM for more than a few seconds. But it will only go into it once per start. Meaning, turn car on, switch to DS/MM, car goes back to D for the entirety of the trip. Turn off, then back on, and can repeat the process.
