What do you expect to learn by asking 'anyone use this oil before'?

Unless someone used it for 15,000 miles and did an oil analysis on the used oil, all other comments you might get fall in the I don't know what I'm talking about but I have to say something anyway category.

I have used Mobil 1 0W-40 for 17,000 miles in my BMW 330i, and it tested OK. I suspect the 5W-30 Extended Performance might last that long also, but the 0W-40 is a better oil, so thats what I use in all my cars.

What makes the 0W40 better than the 5W30?

The 0W-40 meets the BMW LL-01 standard, which means it has a better HTHS (high temperature high shear rating) and is proven to last for BMW's extended drain intervals. It also has slightly better low temperature fluidity. That being said, the extended performance 5W-30 is an excellent oil also.

...If I remember correctly, 0w-40 also contains more zinc, which helps lubricate to hold better metal.

if that is the case I would be changing oil once a year because I only drive my G like 8k a year

For what it's worth, GTM put M1, 0-40 into my TT car.

I've used this oil in our vehicles (except for the new G) and change the oil during my Thanksgiving vacation every year. Haven't had any problems with this approach.

I'm using Mobile 1 now, but will be moving to Stabiized. My car seemed to like Mobile 1, a bit nutty though. Seriously though, from the testing I've seen there are several much better oils, Amsoil for one. Stabilized is even better then Amsoil and is endorsed by Terry Dyson.

Amsoil is decent oil, but the only tests that I see that claim Amsoil is better are Amsoil marketing material, most notoably the meaningless 4 ball wear test. As for Stabilized, good luck to you in your search for the fountain of youth or holy grail with boutique oils, but I wouldn't put that stuff in MY car.

good move to perform oil evaluation at next drain, (Blackstone or Terry),
to confirm oil and engine state, with extended changes.....

Regardless of the factory recommended intervals, I can't stand to keep oil in there for longer than ~5K miles or every other track day.

On our BMW's we keep it in there for 7K miles or every other track day. The BMW motors have a much higher oil capacity than the VQ's do so we can push that a bit longer.
