it wont. you set the miles in the system for the light to come up. changed the miles

 

Just changed my oil this past weekend, and I thought I'd share a tip for anyone who will be venturing to do the same.

Basically it is not necessary to remove the entire belly pan. Only the 4 backmost bolts need to be removed, allowing the rear section to fold down exposing the oil filter and drain plug.. see pic below:

^ I'm pretty sure it is 5 1/8 qts. Something just over 5.

the sudden urgency is because all of a sudden my "Service Engine Soon" light came on yesterday at random.. I'm only 4k miles since my last oil change..might be because I only put 5 in last time without adding a little more..I hope its that

btw, im a little over 14k miles

 

Service light as nothing to do with how my quarts of oil you put in..

Go to the dealer or to an Autozone. They can plug in a code reader and tell you what the SES light is for.

 

so you have to change the copper drain plug washer every time ?

 

Ok, If you need a DIY for how to change oil then please raise your hand and Tommy will come by and hit you in the head with a tack hammer because you are a MORON and have no business working on a car.

 

This is honestly one of the easiest oil changes I've ever done for any of my cars... seriously <3 Infiniti for their design of this motor.

Any ever change the oil on an IS300? Shoot me in the face.

 

Agreed....this is one EASY oil change, and I'm a freakin newbie. Couldn't have been simpler. And to the poster who asked about the copper crush washer, YES, it needs to be replaced everytime to prevent oil leaks. They're available at your dealer's parts department. If you're going to use OEM oil filters, just grab a handful of washers and they'll last you for a few years' worth of oil changes.

OR....you could be smart like me and install a Fumoto oil drain valve (google it) and never have to buy washers again or burn yourself on hot oil again. Brilliant idea. Worth the investment.

 

i am not a fan of the fumoto at all. I sheered one off my S2000 at a track day one and almost lost my motor. thank god i had oil pres gauge of else i would have lost an extremely expensive motor. I had heard many stories about this happening but didnt buy into it. I bought the fram model first with the extra tube. then switched to the fumoto. never again.
