1st problem - had to take it in for service

I had my first G37 problem requiring a dealer visit. I was trying to teach my son how to shift a manual transmission. As expected, he stalled a number of times. When he was done, I took over and headed home. As I started to drive the car, it would violently shake about 2500 RPM. It shaked so severe, that the car would not move forward. I quickly discovered that if I kept the RPMs below 2500, the car drove OK. This problem shaking would occur in any gear. I called the dealer and they said come on over. Of course, it was a challenge getting to the dealership staying under 2500 RPM. I was doing 40 MPH in 6th gear. Other things I noticed - at a stop, when I gave gas to rev up a little, the engine would rev up about 3 seconds after I depressed the pedal. Sometimes at a stop & not in gear, the engine would rev on its own - between 800 & 1200 RPM. One time when I was doing about 40 in 6th gear, I down shifted to 4th gear (now it's in 4th gear and above 2500 RPM) - when I depressed the pedal - nothing. The car didn't even rev up when I floored the gas pedal. I began to sense that the problem centered on the engine not getting fuel above 2500 RPM. That would probably explain the violent shaking and why the engine did nothing when I down shifted from 6th to 4th and depressed the gas pedal.

Anyway, I took it to the dealership. Stupid me, I shut the car off when I got to the service entrance. I went in a got my service advisor. When we took the car for a ride - nothing, no more problems. It ran great. Somehow, someway, shutting the car off reset something. They decided to keep the car anyway and run some testing.. They found nothing. However, they did "reprogram" something. When I picked up the car, it ran great - the best ever. The car almost always jerked alittle when starting from a dead stop. That problem was now gone - as smooth as silk when starting from 1st gear from a dead stop. Also, sometimes there was a little "jerkiness" when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Not anymore - again, as smooth as silk. I always thought the minor jerking from a dead stop and from 1st to 2nd was just a trait of the G37 6MT.

Anyway, I wanted to pass this along. If your 6MT isn't shifting smoothly, you may want to consider having the dealership take a look at it. I've attached part of the service invoice - so you can see exactly what they did.

The invoice says "Cleared Self Learn and re-tested..."
I wonder if they reset the ECU? Could that make the shifting smoother?

all newer cars with computers have this self learn feature which adapts to your driving pattern to react faster to shifts based on how you drive. My S55 has this and drives harder based on when i use my key then when i use my wifes key which is programmed based on her softer driving, The G has the same yet this isnt y the car was shaking it had to be something else

oh snap, so when a first time manual user stalls out a lot of times, it will give the car some problem?

same happened to me when i first got mine about 4 months ago. pulled over to the side, shut the car off for about 5 minutes, and drove away smoothly. but the smooooooth transitions.... i thought it was the trait of the infinitis to be a little rougher in the shifting. do you know exactly what the shop did to make the ride smoother? i finally got my G to stop jerking about 80 percent of the time but if theres a way for the ride to be smoother i definitely want to know.

In the attached picture from the OP What does the Add on? question mean? Does that mean aftermarket parts? yes/no?
