I am about to hit 500 miles in which I will be doing my first oil change due to a hard break-in. This is my first break-in and would like to know what weight oil I should use. The book says SAE 5W-30. Should I go with conventional or go ahead and switch to Synthetic. Also, does anyone know what type of oil the G is built with? I read in another forum to wait to switch to synthetic at 20k miles. What to do?

I don't get why people argue one brand over another. At the end of the day they're all pretty much the same, just like gas from every station is pretty much the same.

 

Gas from every gas station is the same over here. It all comes from Petro-Canada!


Either ways, I couldn't find any Ultra oil in 5w30 or 10w30.

 

The conventional wisdom is to wait a few thousand miles for the rings to seat before going full synthetic, although I have no idea if there is any scientific justification for that. Certainly, there's nothing in the owners manual about it.

The manual recommends 5W30, but its not a requirement. 10W30 oils can be more stable and shear resistant, and our engine shears oils like crazy.

I changed my oil at 500 miles too and am happy I did.

 

How often should I change my oil? I have about 31K on my car, should I change the oil yet?

 

K&N oil filter, Mobile 1 Full synthentic 0-30 every 2k miles , I switched to synth around 6k miles.

 

You seriously change your oil every 2K with Mobil 1?

 

Every 2K's just throwing your money away. I drove an EVO for 7 years before I got the G37 and in the EVO I only changed every 5K miles with Mobil 1. Turbo engines are way harder on motor oil than N/A. Just get a good filter(K&N, or Purolator PureONE) and any name brand full synthetic and you are good for 5K easy.
