Paddle Shifters

I believe on the G37, I read it's operates the other way, other than the customary way.

So to gas it up, g37, push paddle out. Slowdown, g37, paddle in. Backwards not?

You mean to shift gears not gas it up, and usually on paddle shifter there is one on each side of the wheel one is to up shift and the other is to downshift

The one in your right hand will have a (+) on it, upshift, and the one in your left hand will have a (-) on it, downshift.

you might have read that the shifter in the console, to upshift-push shift **** up, to downshift-pull **** back. this is opposite to BMW, but intuitive enough for me.

yes, it is backwards from F1. it should be pull back to upshift, push out to downshift. the console shifter is also backwards and a wiring DIY has been posted on how to get the console shifter to upshift by pulling backwards, not pushing forward

I drove the 335i and i do not like downshift up...it was very un intuitive...here is why...

in all auto trannys i have ever driven, downshift is down. Also, traditionally when you downshift into a corner (in a MT) you are going from 3rd (or some other gear) to 2nd...which is pulling down. And, you can "hang" on the shifter with one hand and the wheel with the other so that once you power out of the corner your hand is on the shifter and your weight is balanced.

"If" I were to have the AT, i would prefer the infiniti design.

The theory behind it...
When accelerating you are being pushed back into the seat.
Hence pull the paddle to up shift.
& reverse for downshifting.

BTW.. you should have downshifted before the corner

you need to read up on paddle shifters, the left paddle will be to downshift while the right paddle will be used to upshift, both are actuated by pulling the paddle towards the driver

I was speaking about the console shifter.

I understand about the "into the seat"...I don't get it...until the 335i I had never driven a single car with the "tiptronic" type shifting. The way the 335 is designed, it was uncomfortable downshifting into corners as you couldn' "hang" on the shifter like I do in my MINI with a MT.

Thank you for explaining it...every one was dancing around the "Manumatic" shifting on the center console.

this is standard for paddle shifters (even for the ferrari's there is a little lever in the center consol for reverse). Just buy the 6 speed and don't mess with the paddles. Nobody likes them.

Ok, I wasn't sure if you were referring to the manumatic mode with the shifter or manumatic with the paddle shifters. It seems to be pretty much intuative and you will just have to get use to the way it works on the G. It won't be that hard!!
