Hypertech with IPL G37

Hey everyone! I am new to the forum and I just picked up a 2011 G37 IPL with 13K miles.

I want to do a couple of mods, but I have to be careful because it's CPO and I got the wrap witch covers the whole car for 84 Months/ 100,000K Mi.

I decided against the Nismo or K&N short ram intake because the service department informed me that it would void my warranty on the engine. Now I am looking into the Hypertech because it seems easy and I really want to keep my car stock and be able to flash it back to stock easily.

Does anyone have experience with the Hypertech programmer on an IPL? (I know I should go with UpRev, but I don't see the point considering I am not adding any bolt ons)

Thanks in Advance!

The IPL already has a more aggressive tune, I don't know how useful a pocket tune would be. The only real benefit I see is bumping up your rev limiter a little bit, and removing the 0-60 throttle restricter. If that's worth a couple hundred bucks to you, I say go for it. I had the hypertech tune for a while, it had some noticeable benefits, but nothing earth shattering.

You can load it back to stock with Uprev as well. I had hypertech prior to FI, not happy with it, didn't really do much, buttdyno disapproved. But that's only my experience/opinion. You can only decrease rev limit and not up it with Hypertech (unless they changed it).

I remember there being a thread that said hypertech did not help at all it actually made him lose power.

Thanks for all the responses. I couldn't find any threads on it. I really just want the throttle response and 0-60 limit removed but I don't know if its worth spending the cash to lose power.

You can apply the 0-60 restriction removal independently of the engine power tune map. The other poster was correct that you cannot raise the rev limit on the VQ, only lower it.

There's also another product that hooks into your throttle pedal called Sprint Booster that basically does the same thing as the Hypertech in terms of increasing throttle sensitivity/reducing lag.

Thanks for the help. I did look into the sprint booster but I don't think I want to spend $300 for that when I could easily just get the hypertech cheaper. Well anyways, I think I am going to get the hypertech and see what happens with different settings.

I have a 2012 IPl and was wondering the same thing, if the hypertech would work with the IPL. Emailed them and this is what they said....p.s you have to start from the bottom and work your way up.

To me

James,

The Programmer will automatically retrieve the vehicles VIN# and computer calibrations out of the vehicles computer which is the key to whether our tuning is correct for that particular vehicle; if it doesn’t recognize the computer calibrations it will display 6D calibration not found and will ask you to update via the internet at which time the Programmer will send us the new calibrations for which we will be sure our tuning is compatible. Engineering probably has not dyno tested the IPL. The additional HP and TQ from what I read comes from the tuned exhaust that comes on this vehicle; not computer tuning files. As always our tuning works well with a good exhaust system. There is definitely no reason to not to try our tuning on this vehicle. Let us know the results. Thanks again.

Jim

I was a little concerned because, as you should know, the IPL makes different horsepower and torque numbers than the other G37's and more horsepower than your tune claims to make. And I see you guys tested your tune on a regular G back in 09. I didn't want to install the tune and end up losing power or messing something up. I only undated it just so it could read my car so I then hook it up to my computer to see if there was a special tune for the IPL. Judging by your response I see you guys never tested this tune on an IPL. Am I right?

James,

I see you have updated the Programmer late yesterday for this vehicle; I do not see why it would not work; the IPL is more of a performance package for the exhaust, larger 19 inch wheels, better brakes and such. If you connect it to the vehicle it will read the vehicles computer and if it lets you go through the programming process and it shows successfully programmed at the end then you are ready to go; if not let us know.

I have a 2012 G37 IPL and was wondering if I can use my tuner with it? I know on your website you have a dyno graph for a regular G37. If so what kind of numbers can I expect?

Just letting you guys know increasing your rev limiter has no benefits and may harm performance. There is not enough torque to have any gains by increasing the rev limiter.

^^^^ correct, peak power for stock/bolt on G's is around 7100rpms... The stock rev limit is fine....

Also..... An intake voiding warranty? ... Lol, better not use rain x either, or change your own oil... Or take it to a shop that's not an authorized infiniti dealership either... Oh, you took it to Nissan? Sorry, warranty voided. Psh, whatever.

So does anybody know if it's compatible for the IPL and doesn't just override the IPL tune with the tune made for the regular G engine? I installed it in my car and it just seems like the car "might" have gotten a little slower. My butt dyno isn't accurate though.
