Stillen Gen 3 + HFC + CBI = tune advice

I don't have my exhaust and HFC brand picked out yet, but I am almost 100% on the Stillen Gen 3.

I'll probably grab the CAI sooner than later. I'm not going to tune it until I get the HFC and CAI installed (both at the same time)...but I plan, as of now, to install everything myself.

What's the drive going to be like until it gets tuned? Any danger in running too lean until I get a tune? I am guessing the car will adjust and reduce performance right?

you ll be fine driving it around. your car might run a little lean but its not going to blow the engine.

If you want you can always just do an ECU reset which will let the car relearn everything. but you have the right idea to wait until everything is in first.

I drove around with an intake and no tune for a long time then an intake with a catback and now I m waiting for HFC then I m going to get a tune

I have a cold air intake, intake manifold and hfc's with zero issues. I plan on getting a tune when it starts getting a bit warmer. You should be fine, the G's ECU will learn to work with the new A/F ratio as you move forwards. Btw, for terds and giggles, I took a quick video of my car running a quick 60 - 100mph to give you an idea of what to expect for sound and power.

I need a tune now, but have been driving around with my mods for a while now, couple thousand miles on M370 too,. No issues. Maybe I should;t push it too hard though. Place I wanted to get a tune at emailed me today and they still don't have their dyno fixed. I may just go the e-tune route. Living in the Northeast limits opportunities for good speed shops. Half the year they won't be doing much, if any, business.

be certain after the cbe, cai, and hfc are the only mods you'd be doing. If you plan to add other engine performance parts then hold off on the tune. i'm untuned but got cai, uim, hfc, and cbe. see 14.5-15.0 on casual driving but 12.5 to 10.0 WOT. you'd be fine but of course its always best to get a tune to preserve your engine for the long run.

Those would be my "stage 1" performance mods. At most, a larger intake manifold would be added to the mix for "stage 1".

I may let the new manifold plus ported throttle bodies be part of a stage 2 mod.

Is there a larger exhaust manifold we can add to the car?

Also, can someone help me determine all airflow related mods so I can group them in the stages of upgrade performance? I basically want to tune twice (at most) until I go forced induction (if I ever do).

As it stands now, CBE, CAI, and HFC would be stage 1, and thenI'd get a tune.

All other airflow mods would be stage 2, and then I'd get a tune again for them.

How does this roadmap look?

I'm getting FI exhaust and resonated HFC's. Can I get a tune without a Cold Air Intake or should I purchase one if I want to get a tune? Just don't know if CAI is needed.

Why not do it all at once? I'm getting the big bore Throttle bodies any minute now then doing the 4.08 final drive gears then tune. For a sedan the biggest exhaust piping is 2.5 (or 2.25). Any Other bolt on performance mod would be the pulleys and headers.

Because I'm not buying it all at once. I also don't want to hold back on driving it to make sure my af stays in normal ranges.

Most of the feedback I've seen suggests driving it a little less than wot until I get the tune.

I'm probably going the route of e-tune. Once I invest in the software, I think it's only $100 per tune.

I have Takeda longtubes, and an almost fully open exhaust now and it does run a bit lean. Especially on start, the revs bounce around a bit until the car is warmed up - this is normal for running a bit lean. I may make the move for an M370 and then jump on a tune.

I've spoke with 4 different tuners and for the G platform, it sounds like EcuTek brings a wider range of tuning options - I'm also specifically looking to modify transmission shifting/timing. Being able to have a full dyno tune will allow for the full potential of all your bolt-ons to come together.

From: Framingham Ma,
Guys our cars run so damn rich from the factory that swapping breather mods aren't going to go so lean your damage anything . Plus the cars ECU will relearn the "new" air flow after driving for a while or / you can just reset the ECU. I drove on HFCS, Catback and cold airs for over a year and saw nothing above 12.7 AF's and that was at almost 8k . My friends got a fully bolt 370z and been driving for a year and half of its no tune . Granted he doesn't beat on it but he's fine also. Get your tune wh you done with your bolt ons.

I had Stillen Gen 3 Cold Air kit installed with AEM dry filters - have run my 2010 G37x summer and winter from really hot weather to really cold weather - snow and ice here in Canada - with no issues. Based on my reading - the Infiniti ECM tends to run the engine a bit to the rich fuel side to avoid any lean condition and potential engine damage - the Stillen kit is designed to lean out the mix a tiny bit for an ideal stoichiometric ratio for complete combustion.
