Hypertech Review (7AT '09 G37S) + Dynos

As promised, this is my review of the Hypertech unit#62005 on my 2009 7AT G37S..

Mods on my car: Stillen Gen3 intakes, Stillen Grounding Kit.. All else stock.

Unfortunately, I have to say I am disappointed with my results.

Before I get to the details, I have to say that the unit itself does scan for any DTC codes (trouble codes), and is really simple and straightforward to use. In a series of 'Yes' and 'No' prompts, you can select the to apply the Performance Tune, 0-60 Throttle Restriction Removal, Top Speed Limiter setup (up to 155mph), and adjust the RPM Limiter.

To be fair, my butt dyno initially reported a slightly sharper throttle response as my foot hit the pedal, and the car seemed to respond faster to the throttle pedal inputs (for example: if I press my foot down 15% at the pedal, it feels like I pushed it down 25%). I really loved this since it made the car feel a bit less sluggish.

However, the disappointment came after taking it to a real dyno for testing and spending the saddest $60 thus far, here are the results:

~30whp and ~20wtq loss...

A/F Ratio ~ 13 at WOT, which is leaner than before (not unexpected though, as I believe it's a natural byproduct of the unit's more-aggressive-than-stock adjustments)

Car was dynoed at at the same place with the same guy behind the wheel to minimize any variables in the dyno testing process...

From: Framingham Ma,
Ok so you lost WHP?? The stock tune made more?? Where you seeing KR or anything on the dyno? I would be looking for a refund. I'm really sorry man.. I did some research for them also with MS3 and I lost a boat load of WHP and torque but that was on a upgraded turbo and the HT Stock VS stock the HT made more by far , But was casue they rasied the boost, My AF's where still WAY to rich.

Dynojet or dynonynamics?

I've got to get mine redone on a dynodynamics. I don't have a base with dynojet, but with ht and dynojet I was reading lower on the dynojet in my mind. But it could just be differences between the twoso I don't know yet without disabling ht and getting a re run.

Well that's a bummer...

I was anxiously awaiting good news from your review before I bought one. Maybe mine is meant to remain stock after all.

Really though, lag is removed. However top end whp performance I don't know how that's affected in my case. Once I remove it and redyno I'll have a somwhat before and after on dyno dynamics..(plus r2c intakes)

30whp 20tq loss? I find that hard to believe, you have to do a before and after dyno on the same date, not comparing with dyno from before.

He is not going to see a 30WHP loss an differnt dyno, Even if he went to a mustand dyno( Which read the lowest).. Unless the first place was playing games and sckewing the graph..

I'm in the process of getting my refund..

Just to clarify things once more: Again, this was done using the SAME dyno AND same mechanic who did ALL my dynos so far.. he knows me and my car pretty well, so I don't think there's much of a dyno variance here..

Also, my previous (base) dyno was done about 4 weeks ago, nothing else was added/removed/modified except the Hypertech unit.. Weather conditions are the same so far, with 80F in the garage clock (Arizona weather, not much surprises here..)

Even though there always will be variance involved in every dyno run, NOTHING justifies a ~30whp loss given the current conditions.

I am in the process of contacting Hypertech to see their side of it and I'll be posting their response here..

Or

Are both before and after on a dyno dynamics.
But we can wait until you post the sheets.

I had to remove my Hypertech tune, after installing the R2C, and ED YPipe.
Felt a loss of power, and was hearing detonation at max RPMS.

It actually feels stronger without it.
