Correct.

Strangely, no. The 6MT Vert did not have a limited slip rear end, and I don't know why.

Well, bother.

I had a guy in NC that did a bunch of RX7 pumpkins for our race team (setting lash and spacing) for about $150 each when we brought him the pumpkin and parts. We typically ran 5.12 rears on the racecars. He did a Dana locker diff in a Jeep for me too for about the same. Maybe he's still in business...

Any way to find out axle spline numbers / size etc on the differential itself? I've got a Torsen out of a 2000 RX-7 (JDM bringback), and if I was going to go to the effort and expense of getting new gears set up, might as well upgrade the diff.

my particular pumpkin came from a skyline gt-s from Japan. it came with the stock 3.9 gear ratio and vlsd. I got it from a member here on the forums, and have no idea what year gt-s it came from.

The Sport Model Manual Convertibles had the 3.916 gearing but no vlsd. 2015 and new 370z nismo now come with the 3.916 and vlsd. Just a FYI. I have a differential with 3.916 already installed with vlsd I may be selling soon. Also.

I've a friend with the Nismo Z, and he just confirmed this for me. Pretty cool that Nissan did that.

I was surprised to discover the Nismo Z had the same rear gears as the Vert 6MT... and here's another one.

A buddy of mine has a very nicely kept 2008 G37S Coupe with an automatic transmission. While I knew the '08 was the first year for the G37 (Coupe only... the G37 Sedan didn't debut until 2009), I also knew the '08 Coupe AT used a 5-speed transmission. What I didn't know was the final drive ratio for the rear gears in that car was the same for both the AT and the 6MT... which was 3.692.

That's why the '08 Coupe AT feels so responsive down low. Shifts are harsh when pushed hard, both up and down, but if you paddle-shift up around 5k, and use good judgement on the way down, it's a great driver's car. And lots easier than going through seven freaking gears.

Alright well, I think I'll be pulling the trigger on this shortly. I thought about the Z1 400HP package, but since I'll have some 20's with 315 tires in the rear I think this would be a bigger and more fun difference. This isn't a daily driver so the loss of gas mileage or freeway RPM's won't bother me.

Well, the rear gears will be cheaper and quicker to install, but they are not nearly as significant a change in performance (and sound) as the 400HP package. It will take a little getting used to your new shift points, but it is a fun upgrade.

Right now I think it just makes more sense for me, the 400HP kit isn't off the table but there's a chance I might want to revamp a lot of my mods and then do the tuning rather than having to do it twice. Limited budget for now.

Makes sense. Neither mod is exactly cheap.

And don't forget the '07 and '08 sedans also use the 5 AT with a 3.69 final drive ratio. Of course, we only got the 3.5HR instead of the 3.7VHR. The 5 AT tranny along with the 3.69 ratio definitely makes it nice and responsive... but like you said, shifts can be quite harsh with the 5 AT, especially when you let it downshift on it's own in sport mode.

Finally pulled the trigger! I'm very excited! Went with Z1's LSD instead of VLSD too.

Nice! Let me know what you think of the LSD. I never had an issue with the oem LSD with my sticky tires, but I have to think there is some difference.
