Anybody have experience with the directwire kit from escort? So you can mute easily without reaching over to the actual radar detector itself?

anyway I can make this work with a garmin navi unit or is this only for radar detectors?

I only did this with the radar, no reason why it *can't* work with a regular Nav unit. 12volts is 12 volts. You won't find a dedicated micro tap though. What kind of power inlet does the Nav unit require? Post pics and we can make this happen.

Thanks for the DIY! I'm having trouble with the white clip part as well... Where exactly are you putting pressure to make it pop? I tried placing the wires in from the back but I think they are too thick

To make the clip open, you need to wedge a screwdriver or the flat blade of a housekey between the white and black part on the top of the plug itself. This will split the two parts apart, and you can insert the wire tap and clip them back together before reinserting the plug to the rear view.

Do you think this power cord/cable would work too? only difference is no fuse.

Just get the cable with the nano-sized taps. You won't have to pry open the connector at all. They slide right in but are still a snug fit. No issues.

Awesome write up just did this DIY in my car only this is I have one question and that is my radar seems to stay on the whole time not a big deal I just unplug or power down just curious if there is and easy was to correct this I followed each step and everything went smooth only took about 10 mins to do

If you do it exactly like mine, then it should turn off when you turn off the car. Your home link mirror turns off with the car, and this only borrows power from that circuit. You might have something else wrong if your unit is drawing power even when the car is off.

Your right I actually looked back over the mirror tap and I put the red with the gray and not brown but I corrected it and works perfect now thanks for the help

Set mine up yesterday. Also spliced in the power cable for my dash cam. Works great!

okay cool -- just ordered the mount. I also had held the radar up when the Nav was on an I didn't get any signals.
