Repaint Peeling Interior Door Trim

Hey guys this is my first DIY, I just got my 08 G37S about two weeks ago and i noticed that my door trim was chipping and peeling. So this is what i did.

Materials

-100 Grit Sand Paper
-120 Grit Sand Paper
- Krylon ColorMaster Metallic Silver Spray Paint

This is what i started with, door trim all scratched up.

1. First I sanded down all the roughness off of the door trim with the 100 grit sand paper.

2. Next I took the 120 Grit sand paper and smoothed the door trim out.

Looks awesome I need to do the same for my car. How difficult was it getting the trim off the door and what is the process?

It took me about 2 minutes on each side to remove them. I took a middle size flat head screw driver and wrapped the tip with painters tape. Next you need to look for a notch on the bottom left corner (passenger side) or the bottom right corner (driver side) of the trim. Next I took the screwdriver and popped the clips open and moved my way up towards the window.

Be careful at the very top of the trim because there isnt a clip on top it just slides into the door panel.

At first I was a little scared to use force at first but, luckily i didnt break any clips.

good deal, i went to a local paint supply shop with my paint code and had them mix me up an aerosol can of my car's color so I can paint my handles to match the exterior of the car…its a bit more pricey than the Krylon, but same idea, looks great!!!

Not to burst everyone's bubble, but if you get replacement door pulls they are metal and don't have this issue. A lot less work. And they match the other aluminum trim inside the car perfectly unlike the paint.

Well, the paint isn't too far off from the original color. Well in my eyes. Simple and cheap though.

Thanks for the DIY I was trying to find a safe way to remove the door pulls. I'm going to try and Vinyl wrap the pulls and see how they come out.

Also thanks to BB for suggesting replacing the pulls - I didnt know they now make metal instead of plastic ones, so if I turn out to be terrible at wrapping, I'll purchase those.

The part numbers for anyone else that might want them are 80944-JL03A & 80945-JL03A

looks like 80944-JL03A is universal for the driver side. 80945-JL03A is for passenger side GTS coupe. Other numbers for GTx and convertible.

Thanks for sharing this with us and congrats on a great job.
I had noticed a few scratches on the driver side door and was wondering how to fix it.

Looks like they jumped up in price a bit from Circle Infiniti.

This is great! Will be attempting this myself in the very near future. I wonder if just having sanded it down to where the metal was even would have looked good too. I guess trying to get that same brushed metal pattern would be difficult though. Good job.

Question

I have A 2010 G37 . I have scratchets on the upper long silver part of the door. Is mine metal? And do they pop off so I can follow this process to fix them. The scratches are irritating me.

Mine is a 2008, the trims are aluminum, so I would think they are all metal. And yes they popped off the same. Mine were "dented" up and I got NOS ones which were aluminum.
