I just plasti-dipped mine this weekend, including using their 'glossifier' product, and am not really satisfied with the outcome. 5 coats of the gloss and it only really has a satin finish. Plus, it still has the typical plasti-dip texture. I have plenty of leftover cans of black and the glossifier if anyone wants it .
I've had black dipped grills, and they just dont look as good as my recent discovery of anthracite plasti dip. I did my G's front grill in anthracite with 3-4 coats of glossifier, you cant even tell its dipped...unlike black, most of the other color options dont show texture like black does.
I took it off and did the work inside, it's not too hard to take off at all. If I'm wrapping anything I usually find it easier to remove the piece if possible and work on it.

This pic shows the initial lay down, it's just one piece. The ones I've done I loosened the grill, laid the vinyl out like the pic below, and just tacked the vinyl to the front edge of the slats, I then removed the grill to do all the heating and tacking between the slats. If you get a 2x5' section that should give you enough for a couple mess ups, it takes a bit of practice to get a feel for how it responds to the heat. Be sure to give the grill a good cleaning, then a good rub down w/ Isopropyl Alcohol prior to applying the wrap. FWIW you don't need nearly this much vinyl as the pic below, just measure your grill and allow about an inch more in all directions
How about the chrome trim around the grille...anyone have some tricks for that part? and some pics?
yea it's called "in-lays". I had to do my grill in 3 pieces but could probably be done in 2 but I did it because exactly where the slats meets the grill it creates a deep recess. You will need something called "knifeless tape" n use it to create the cut line n lay it down on the body line of the grill. When used correctly it give you an overlap of only 1/8 inch on the vinly n a super clean finished. First you lay your knifeless tape down where u would cut the excess vinyl off n once you squeegee everything down n break the line that sits in the knifeless tape use it to cut the vinyl. After that you have to relay the knifeless tape so the top peices over laps by 1/8 once you cut it with the knifeless tape. If done correctly then you you pretty much layed all most all the vinly n all most no stretched which would allow for a long lasting vinly install. It's not hard n if I was you I would watch a YouTube channel called (CK WRAPS) it would help, hes a professional vinly installer with some amazing tips n tricks n is the sole reason I'm able to do vinly, because of his videos n practice I have the confidence to enjoy vinyl wrapping which to me is therapeutic some how n just understand it takes practice n you will **** up period maybe not now but on the next 1 n that's fine cause no one is perfect, even mr.ck wraps ****s up sometimes.
