Vinyl Wrapping Grill

Hi, I just got my G sedan last Monday, and the first thing I want to do is black out my front grill. I was thinking vinyl would be better than plastidip. Whats your opinion? Also, has anyone had any experience doing this; is it really hard to do?

labor is tough with vinyl especially if you want to make it in one piece.

Thats what I was planning, one piece. I just don't want to do plastidip because I want a gloss finish.

a lot of stretching and cutting... if you have the time, enjoy it.

my Fx50 was done in one piece so you can't see any cut lines anywhere.... some places wont' do that. the grille has a lot of lines so stretch and cutting will be required...

I can't even begin to think how one would accomplish such a task...never mind how long it would probably take.

If you get it done, please post pictures. I'm very curious how it would come out.

Good luck.

I've been doing a few vinyl projects lately and will soon wrap my grill. I'd say it will be tough if you haven't worked w/ vinyl before, you might want to practice on the rear chrome lip first
What you want to do is put the full loose sheet down and really heat it between the grill slats to give you enough vinyl to tuck around the slats. Push in between the slats to give you enough slack, start in the center where the slats are spaced the most and work toward the ends. I think it will go OK since I've done enough vinyl work, probably do this in a couple months. I'll post any results when I get it done.

It's possible and will be time consuming..

But I don't think vinyl is the best material to be putting on the grill. I would think that the vinyl will get torn up by rock chips.

Plasti dip has new products that can make it look glossy. You should check that out. Otherwise, best option is to just paint it.

I had my grille wrapped. I didn't do it myself, but had it done. It took about an hour.

I did my grill when I first bought my car. The way did it was use masking tape strips to get the shape of each grill section then transfer the finished shape over to vinyl and cut. A little more time consuming than above.

I just plasti-dipped mine this weekend, including using their 'glossifier' product, and am not really satisfied with the outcome. 5 coats of the gloss and it only really has a satin finish. Plus, it still has the typical plasti-dip texture. I have plenty of leftover cans of black and the glossifier if anyone wants it .

Actually vinyl holds up very well to rocks, it may leave a small indent, but unlike paint it won't chip. If the vinyl is very old it may start to get brittle but that's many years down the road. If you've seen a vinyl-wrapped vehicle take a look at the wrapped front bumper, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised

Mine is currently plasti-dipped and that is why I really want to vinyl wrap it. The plasti-dip is tough to clean, bugs and dirt are tough to get off and keeping water spots off is also a chore since micro-fiber towels stick to the stuff like velcro. And like WeisG35, I want a true gloss finish.
