DIY: Smoked/Tinted tail lights w/ reverse cutout
Thanks for the 2nd confirm!
I was at Autozone, I picked up rubbing compound.. But forgot to buy clear coat.. so I'm pretty much effed up atm. Waiting for my cousin to arrive here and buy clear coating asap
I have this Roust-Oleum Crystal Clear Enamel, it makes my "test" cups white.. I don't like that.. "for a protective glossy finish" my *** lol

I bought rust-oleum that totally messed up my tail lights with the spray tint.. chemical reaction!
so my buddy and I used goo-off to remove the right side light and start over..
I am deciding not to put a clear coat over.. maybe just sand it down, then rubbing compound?, then wax it?

Plus if you use a strong compound straight on paint it will jack it up
That must be that same crap that I used on my first attempt of this. They turned white! Used paint thinner and started over. Def put a clear coat on them to get the shine, paint alone won't get it done.
autozone ran out of dupicolor clear coat.. probably going to try kragen tomorrow, hopefully they have it!
thanks for the help guys!
quick question too;
will "turtle wax rubbing compound" work? after the wet sanding? i was a little sketchy about this red paste looking going on my tail lights..
this is what i have sooo far(i did taping and covering, i did not remove my tail lights). gotta do a lot of retaping tomorrow!

Alright So i was going to put the 2nd coat on.. Then wtf happened?!
It looks like air bubble sorta-ish..
Do you think if I let it dry until tomorrow and I can sand it down to give a smooth surface of the tail lights?
or
Let it dry, then apply another coat and hopefully it will even out..
Here are some pictures;

that is EXACTLY what happened to mine!! try wetsanding it tomorrow...I smoothed mine out a bit then I got my PC out and compounded and polished the **** out of it, and it smoothed out just fine
Hispeed how long did you wait between coats? I think that could be part of the problem if you wait to long between then they start to get too dry. I only wait 4-6min between coats of the same paint and about 15 between base and clear.
that actually might be it...I waited ~15 min b/w same coats and 30-35 b/w base/clear
I only waited a few minutes between clear coats but was not going very heavy either. Can't remeber exactly how many coats I did but it was several. Getting close man, it's always a learning experience on your first time to do anything.
