Is spray wax enough to protect from writing/drawing?

Hey all

The short: Will monthly quick/spray wax protect paint from people drawing in dust?

I have been having a problem recently with people writing/drawing on my black car. I work in a dusty environment and even if I completely clean my car daily.....just sitting in the lot at work for a few hours it is covered in light sand. Needless to say it seems as though people can't stay away from drawing smiley faces/****s/or "wash me" on my hood.

So far have had the hood buffed and polished twice which costs me $175 a pop to remove clearcoat scratches.

I am thinking of applying Meguiars Quik Wax once a month to the whole car. (Says it lasts 3 but I know that is bs). Would this be enough to protect my car from clearcoat scratches from dust writing?

There is no wax, sealant, or coating that will protect your paint from clear coat scratches in the sense that you need it to. These products protect your paint from environmental contamination, not from superficial damage.

Your only real options are to find a new place to park where your vehicle will be safe, find out who is touching your car and ask them to stop (I assume it is the same person/people if it is consistently happening) and show them the damage, or have clear bra installed to protect the paint.

It is also worth mentioning, you can not polish your clear coat an infinite number of times. If you are having to pay for a paint correction numerous times per year, you will eventually polish through the clear coat. I typically recommend polishing just once a year with a lighter polish for routine maintenance.

Let me know if you've got any questions.

This isn't my exact question but close enough, is spray wax suffice? I understand its not a full replacement of a proper wax but I do a full detail maybe only every 90 days or so but wash my car weekly and have thought about using spray wax in the mean time. I seem to attract pollen and dust very quickly, practically over night and my car looks filthy all over again. Does spray wax help from things sticking or is there a better way to keep the car cleaner, longer?

No wax is going to keep your car from attracting pollen and dust. Any type of wax is simply an added layer of protection for your clear coat and helps to smooth out the surface so light can reflect off your paint for a "showroom finish." The only practical ways to keep dust off is to park your car in a closed environment or by using a car cover, which may do more harm than good in some cases. Keep up with the proper weekly washes...I can totally relate since I have a black G. Otherwise, just let mother nature do her thing...pollen is what puts food on our plates!

Ah gotcha thanks, I guess Athens Blue is just a really hard color to keep clean? I garage my car every night so it must just be the pollen and dust in the area. BUT, that just gives me a reason to wash the car and even out my tan in the driveway lol.

I've had Athens Blue and it was the best color to keep clean IMO. I've had Malbec Black and now Moonlight White and these 2 were by far the worst to keep clean. With the right arsenal of cleaning products, you can keep your pain top notch. I normally do a detail twice a year (one in the spring and one in the fall before winter). In between I use a lot of sealants after car washes such as my fav CarPro Reload Spray Sealant. This stuff really makes the paint pop after my maintenance washes along with my wheels.

I'd take a full day off work and park my car in the usual spot and play watch out from a distance and when the culprit(s) show up I'd blast them with paintballs

I'm not one ever to resort to such things but nobody messes with my baby. NOBODY!

I can attest to this, since I also clean/detail my roommate's blue vw r32. The paint on his car looks better than my obsidian black paint even before it gets cleaned! It definitely has to do with the amount of light being absorbed by the color and the dust/particles being reflected off the surface.
