Tail lights not working and now abs issue...

So I've had my car for almost 2 years, and didn't have any issues with it. Currently 60k miles (2010 g37x) I've previously had 2 different aftermarket sound systems in it with no problems. I decided to have new system put in, only electrical he touched was cleaning up the butchered pre-bose wire harness, and he unbolted the kickpanel fusebox to see if there was any space for kickpod speakers. But there isn't, so he put it back. I pick the car up, it's fine, lights working and everything's fine. Next day, my rears aren't working. Not parking lights, not the brake lights (including stop lamp) , the hazards and the turn signals function though. So i check all the fuses (kick panel and ipdm) and nothings blown, even swapped the ones it could of been to be double sure. Still no rears, so I bring in an audio/electric installer. He does some trouble shooting and determines the tail lights are not blown, and that they are live so it's disconnected. But beyond that, he couldn't figure out much more. But either he touched something or it's coincedental but things got worse, my abs is ****ed up now (before drove fine even with the light issue) brakes are locked up unless you step on the pedal, and even after they're a lot higher than they should be.

With my dads car computer, no codes are coming up. Probably going to have to but I don't wanna bring it to a shop because how badly I'm going to have to pay for it. I'm extremely frustrated with the whole siutation.

Take it back to the shop that installed your latest system.

I am thinking the CAN bus is shorted or open and that can stop the communication to ABS & IPDM module. BUT that should set a code.

As difficult as it may be, you need to get the car back to the shop, or get a guy from the shop to your car.

that's literally a 100 miles away, and as adept he is in sound quality for car audio, i don't think many installers would be able to solve this. My dad (my main generic mechanic) wants to buy a hayes book and solve it ourselves so I don't get financially raped by the Infiniti dealership or an auto electric shop. If it does turn out to be the upstate installers fault then you better believe he'll be compensating for that. I hope to solve this asap, I hate driving my nieces 2001 mazda millenia. While it's better than paying for a rental, the pickup sucks and the tranny slips all the time. The drive is the opposite of the smooth I'm accustomed to ll.

Also, just because, the brake light switches are like 20 bucks non oem , I might just try them just because. Also read some people after resetting the ecu or whatever they had issues until driving for a little bit. Maybe I'll drive around the block a few times to see if the ecu sorts the abs issue out. But all that aside, no reason the brake lights to do thiis, espec because the only wire harness that was touches was the pre-bose harness for the speakers. So wtf?

Ok, I understand your situation.

Don't waste your money on a Hayes or Chilton book. The factory shop manual is free here: Index of /FSM/G37
Look at EXL-49 to troubleshoot the rear lights.

I would remove the radio and have a look at the wires/connectors and look for anything out of place. The car was OK for a day, maybe something is loose?

I suspect your Dad's "car computer" is an OBD scanner. They only see the ECM for emission related codes. This won't help you retrieve ABS or BMC error codes.

I just found those manual when googling before I came back here , they hopefully with solve this dilemma. My Dad has a few of those plug in computers, which one would he need to use to retrieve abs or bmc error codes? He wants me to use that website where you pay 10 bucks and ask a make specialist tech for help, to kinda get us going in the right direction.

Save yourself $10 and start on section EXL, page 49 and see where that leads you.

I have gone through the ABS and tail light sections looking for a common circuit, hoping the two symptoms may be related to one issue. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything common. (other than the CAN bus)

The tools to read the ABS module are fairly specialized and not cheap. Maybe one of your Dad's tools may work, but the odds are against you.

I hope I am wrong, but I believe your problem is going to be time consuming and difficult to figure out. Newer cars have 10+ computers (like the ABS module) that are attached to a copper wire network (CAN bus). Effective trouble shooting requires a good understand of the CAN bus, modules and special tools to test.

I wish you much luck!

the audio guy probably put a long azz tapping lag screw into the wiring harness somewhere when he was doing his install. common issue with audio shops and customers that want new fangled audio devices vibrating their way down the road. i've seen audio install shops drive tapping lag screws into the gas tank and set the evap code days after the job was done. unfortunately you brought this problem on to yourself and the only way to get out of it is to pay someone with the right skills and tools do the job. chaaaa chinngggg....

The abs problem resolved itself. Because the audio guy had my parking lights on so long while looking for the problem, and me not driving my car a few days, the battery had died. I had also unplugged the abs. Today after recharging the battery and re plugging the abs wire, the brakes were no longer tense at the pedal or locked. I drove it around the block to see if it'd happen again but it didn't. Hope that I'm in the clear for that.

I ordered a specialized reader thats made for infintis/nissan and subaru. Kinda an investment towards future mystery issues. It's gonna be here on friday, tomorrow though my dad wants to try a few things after he looked through the field manuals.

It looks really nice.

I am curious to see what modules it can connect to. (ABS, BCM, etc)
Most scanners less than $500 can't.
