Adhesive Removal

At an autocross this weekend, I used masking tape (all that was available at the event) to tape numbers to my 2009 x coupe.

In the morning is was hot and sunny, then in the afternoon, it rained really hard.

The end result was that the heat melted the adhesive on the tape, then the rain made the paper backing separate, so I'm left with gummy lines on the car where the tape was.

How do you recommend cleaning this off?

I definitely need to get some magnetic numbers...

Goo Gone worked. I ran it through the car wash after getting the adhesive off.

Definitely not using masking tape to affix numbers again...

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard anyone say.

If he had a problem with regular masking tape, duct tape is going to be 10x worse.

Bad advice is bad.

Yes, I'm sure it would be stupid. It was a joke. Didn't think anyone would take that seriously.

Lol, yes. I have not had the time or patience to 'correctly' wash/detail the car. I plan to have it done properly before winter, but I won't be doing it myself...

I also ordered magnetic numbers last night.

Yes, Goo Gone works plenty well. Just De-badged the coupe this weekend and it did the trick as it did on the Mada prior to that. Yes, a good coat of wax or paint sealant should be applied afterward as it will strip down to the clear coat. Make sure to use microfiber or a an old cotton t-shirt, hanes or similar, not one that has color or print on it.
