Hey all,

I have always wanted to try out a foam gun but was always stumped at which one is best for what I would use it for. I have two cars, and am just looking for something to make my job a little easier during the wash. Note, that I am looking for just a foam gun that gets hooked up to a normal garden hose, instead of the foam cannon that gets hooked up to a pressure washer.

Any recomendations?

 

Here is my personal opinion. If you get one, go big and get the pressure washer one. Those that attach to a hose really don't do much, and ultimately you will be dissapointed with the foam output in the long run.

That being said...the Gilmour Foamaster is the best one I've seen for hose attachments...

It won't blast and clean but it will lay down the foam. I like mine...

Can you recommend a good pressure washer to go with that?

 

To me, I think the whole point of "foaming" is to get suds that are foamy enough to pull dirt and lubricate your wash media AND still run off the car. Piling on a 1/2" thick layer of foam that just sticks to the car is cool to look at, but I like having the foam roll off by itself.

I have the Gilmour adjustable model. I set it to full output, spray one side of the car, let all the foam slide off. If your car is really dirty you can see the white foam ending up brownish when it hits the ground. That means its doing something instead of just sitting there stuck to the panels.

Once the foam is sliding off clean Ill foam a single panel, my wash mitt and then start actually washing the panel.....adding more foam as I feel is needed.

Does it use more soap than normal? Yes, probably. Does it help prevent washed induced marring? DEFINITELY. Especially with the butter soft paint that Infiniti seems to use on their vehicles. Mine is Malbec Black so Im already behind the eight ball, I dont need to make it worse.

I highly recommend the Gilmour Foamaster II Foam Gun which works great with any garden hose. It works with any shampoo but you need to use a good amount of shampoo to maximize it. I personally use about 6oz in a wash so purchasing a 128oz shampoo is a good investment. Here are some great values on shampoos I like: Chemical Guys Maxi Suds II (on sale this month), Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss (helps safely remove the old sealant and wax). No matter what shampoo you use it's just a fun way to spray foam on the paint. This saves me time and I think I do a slightly better job when I use the foam gun.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I bought the foam gun last week and I really like it. It doesnt use that much soap, especially if you use CG's citrus wash and gloss soap by the gallon its really not that expensive. It does work, once I foamed the whole car down the soap became brown as it was running off the car so dirt was coming off. I like it alot and it does reducing scratching by adding more lubricity. +1 for foam guns!
