Thoughts if I overpaid for this sedan an IAAI auction
I bought a 2013 Infiniti G37 sedan journey with 59k miles for $10,500 after taxes and fees. It has slight rear bumper damage, but nothing major. Rebuilt title obviously. My wife thinks I got hosed, especially since I was barely able to sell my clean title 2013 G37 sedan with 90k for 12k.
Yes, you got hosed. A car with a R title is worth about half of that of one with a clean title. Not only is it R title, but it is still damaged. They saw sucker stamped on your forehead. That cat is worth at most $7k, and that would be if it were already fixed. Still damaged, it might be worth $6k..

30k miles less doesn't justify the difference here with a rebuilt title still needing thousands in repairs.
However, it doesn't matter. It's the car you have, so suck it up and deal with it. Get it repaired, buff out the headlights, buy some nice wheels, and enjoy the car.
I don't know about hosed. If he doesn't care about the R title; just drive it until ze wheels come off? Maybe the car is in A1 condition other than the bumper. and if you can do the body work yourself, or know a friend, seems you didn't buy bitcoin.
I wouldn't use the word 'hosed' either. Where you're located matters. I spent the better part of the last six months looking for a G37 and I've seen the prices from private parties on these in about every state within 500 miles of my own. In my area a similar model/miles is regularly going for 12-13k, post-repair with a rebuilt title.
So if you're handy or confident you can get it looking good within a reasonable budget, you may not have got an especially great deal, but you didn't pay much over market. I'd feel different if it were front end damage and didn't look relatively cosmetic. If it's sound mechanically otherwise, it's reasonable.
Maybe I will try to justify .. is rebuilt title when the cost of repair is greater than the value? If so it's possible that the they decided it was not worth the repair because it cost soo much. Rebuilt will suppose to repair so that the car is safe on the road. Good luck with it.
Rebuilt title is when the car is totaled and then made safe enough to put on the road.
A car is generally totaled when the damage estimate exceeds ~70% of the value of the car. In Pennsylvania once a car is totaled you have to apply for a salvage title first. Once the salvage title is in hand you can take the car to an advanced inspection station and they can deem if it is eligible for an R title at that time.

NONE of this explains why anyone would sell a clean car only to turn around and buy a wrecked version of the same g***amn car! There is no logic here.
There is more to this story- if it is real- than the OP initially provided. He has not returned and quite frankly, who cares? Let the Mrs. deal with his idiocy.
