Renewed lease for additional year...

My 39-month lease ended on my G37S Vert with 14k miles, and I didn't have time to really analyze what to do next.

When I got the car new, I got a 0% lease, so when Infiniti said I could just keep paying the same $490/month for another year, I just went for it.

After the 4th year, I might just buy it out.

This is one of the all-time great cars. I still love it.

Hmmm! $490.00 per month for 39 months = $19110
$490 for another 12 months = $ 5880
----------

So after 51 months you've paid $24990.00

And you own nothing

That is why dealers encourage customers to lease.
Very profitable for them
For you not so much
Did you ever inquire about your credit score?

You should have just bought it after your initial lease had matured, why would you continue to lease for another year?

You probably could have jumped into a new one for the same payments.

He hasn't lost anything as of yet as far as lease vs buy. At the end of his extension he will have a buy out option that will reflect the total sum he has paid thus far. If he elects not to buy it, then yes, that is a huge loss. Besides, when you own a car, they depreciate anyways. In those 51 months, I'm sure that car has depreciated over $25k.

This would have been a terrible move since he would have wiped out all of his previous payments on a car he loves and only has 14k. This essentially gives him one more year to "rent to own" the car and decide if he wants to buy it.

New ones would also not be close to this, vert leases are weak these days
