Leaning Toward G37x over Mercedes CLA, but Price Question

My 2002 Honda Accord is on its last legs at just over 200k miles. I fell in love with the Mercedes CLA during the Super Bowl; however, starting to have second thoughts after reading multiple reviews.

My neighbor works for Nissan corporate and can get me a friends/family discount. He believes the G37 is one of the best values on the road right now after they announced the Q50 to take its place.

My question is, what type of price should I expect for a 2013 G37x with premium option? My dealer has it listed at ~$37k before incentives and friends/family.

I plan to buy before 12/31 as dealership should be pushing for end of year sale.

TIA

Personally I wouldn't pay more than $34500 out the door. Its the end of the year and dealers are trying to meet their end of the year quota, if they haven't already made it, so they may be willing to let vehicles go for less. I would lowball at like $33 and make the comment that its an outgoing model and a previous model year. If they are smart they wont take that offer but they'll counter back probably around $36. Just keep doing it until they either come down to where you want it or until they've reached their bottom line. If their bottom line still isn't where you want it tell them you need a couple of hours to think about it and leave them your phone number and have them call you if they end up changing their mind. Its all about who can outsmart the other.

Thanks for the reply.

I believe the Friend/Family price for base G37 is ~$29k. The X s/b $1,500 more and premium another $2,500. I was thinking it would land around $33k, but maybe that is too optimistic...

I also had the option of going with a family member's Nissan discount and I was looking at a new 2013 G37X and a few used models as well. My OTD price including tax, tags, titling, and all associated BS dealer fees was just a hair under $32,500 - that was for a 2013 G37X in Malbec Black, Navi and premium packages, and a few other bells and whistles like illuminated kick plates, wood trim for the interior and a midnight black grill. They were going to toss in all-weather mats, trunk net, and a couple other things.

Still was a little more than I wanted to pay for a car at that time so I was able to get a screaming deal on a 2010 trade-in, which is what I'm sporting now. I can easily say I love driving my G every day and wouldn't have opted for anything else.

Thanks! When/where was this if you don't mind? I was thinking I might be able to get it down to $30k (w/o navi), but we'll see.

I will also look at CPO when I check out the new ones. I'm not opposed to going that route if the deal is right.

This was back in September/October of this year and I could pick any of the 3 dealerships in my area (Northern Virginia)

Good to know. I would expect your prices to be higher than mine in Michigan, but we'll see. Thanks.

Yep, I live in Mich and FWD or AWD is basically a necessity at least for a daily driver.

As I mentioned above, I'm a value shopper and based on reviews and new pricing, I think the G37 is a value buy. I believe I would get a lot more car for less money with the G37 rather than the CLA.

I only see two downsides to G37, fuel efficiency (20mpg vs. 30) and the looks of a 7-year old car vs. 1st year model. I don't think either is enough to make me lean back to the CLA based on significant negative press over last few months.

BTW, just realized I post this message on the wrong board. My apologies to the mods.

Go get a CPO G37X, and use that saved money for styling to satisfy the one con you mentioned of it being a car with "7-year old looks".

Definitely something I've considered. I'd love to get the Q50 split 5-spoke wheels on it.

Too bad you dont live here in Nebraska, I could get you to $34,299 OTD today. Considering im stuck here at work with no chance of selling a car on Xmas eve because its 5 degrees out and no ones out shopping for cars, they will take almost any deal I take to them
